From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
This is a list of characters from the Nickelodeon/Treehouse TV series Shimmer and Shine.
Characters[edit]
Humanoids[edit]
- Shimmer (voiced by Eva Bella U.S. version and Mia Wiltshire in the UK version) – An optimistic genie with blue eyes and pink hair. She is enthusiastic and encouraging. She loves cleaning, glitter, and collecting genie bottles. However in "Gone Bowlin" her genie bottle collecting got so out of hand that their genie palace became full of genie bottles, though Shimmer later gets the idea to use the genie bottles as bowling pins an idea which Shine loved to the point she stated she would never complain about Shimmer's genie bottle collecting again. She is quite excitable and can be enthusiastic about simple things such as cleaning, glitter, or winning a pen at the Pirate Arcade in "Game On". She has a somewhat wild imagination especially when she's excited, as shown in "Ahoy, Genies" when she wonders if they will encounter mermaids, then bears, or even bears with mermaid tails. In Carpet Troubles, Shimmer is revealed to love magic carpets and is quite knowledgeable about them. As a result, she idolizes Dalia the Carpet designer and vendor, wishing to make carpets like she does, though Shimmer finds making Magic Carpets difficult at first, though later in the episode manages to fix her own carpet with encouragement from her sister and Leah.
- Shine (voiced by Isabella Cramp U.S. version and Ellie Simons in Season 1 and Mia Hope in Season 2 in the UK version) – A courageous genie with purple eyes and blue hair. She is an animal lover and is often hungry. Due to her love of animals she is very knowledgeable about various animals and magical creatures native to Zahramay Falls such as Zoomicorns and dragons. Unlike her sister, she dislikes cleaning and is more laid back, though can be just as excitable as her sister at times. She has a habit saying "It's like I always say..." only to humorously reveal she have just made up the saying when Shimmer points out she had never heard it before (in "Sleep-Over Party" she performs a rim shot on some drums summoned by one of Leah's wishes after saying "that's cause I just made it up" line, indicating that this habit is a running gag). In Season 2, she is shown to be a skilled Zoomicorn Toss player. In "The Genie Pirate", Shine is shown to be a fan of pirate genies and is excited to meet Captain Zora, to the point she so overwhelmed by meeting one that she can barely talk straight to Zora at first, though eventually calms down and joins her sister and Leah into helping Zora calm down Zora's magical pet Scallywag.
- Leah (voiced by Alina Foley U.S. version and Claudia Burns in the UK version) – A blonde girl with green eyes who owns a genie bottle, which includes Shimmer and Shine.[1] Although Shimmer and Shine usually mess up her wishes, Leah is patient and forgiving with them. Originally, she was forced to keep her genies existence a secret from her close friend Zac, though in the second season after she and Zac end up being transported to Zahramay Falls along with Shimmer and Shine by one of Zeta's spells, their existence is revealed to Zac. After she and Zac stop Zeta from stealing the Green Forest Gem, Leah and Zac are granted a wish by Princess Samira along with Shimmer and Shine. Leah and Zac wish to be able to visit Zahramay Falls whenever they want. While visiting her genies in Zahramay Falls, Leah magically dons a genie disguise in order to blend in, as humans are normally not allowed in Zahramay Falls. In Season 2, Leah starts hanging out with her genies, exploring Zahramay Falls with them, and occasionally assisting them in their genie-training, in addition to foiling Zeta's various schemes. In "Bling, Bling", Leah develops a fondness for Gooey Gummy Genie Jelly candy. Due to spending time in Zahramay Falls, Leah has also started to use some of the words and phrases used by genies in Zahramay Falls such as Zahramazing in "The Glob". In "Feel Better", it is revealed that humans are immune to the sneezy dust produced by Sneezy Bugs as Leah doesn't sneeze when exposed to it and thanks to her immunity she manages to cure the affected genies of their magic sneezes that produce out of control magic by getting the Sneezy Bug to sniff a Zahramay bluebell flower. Leah is shown to be quite clever as she often comes up with ways to foil Zeta such as using Zeta's selfish and power hungry nature against her, though she like Shimmer and Shine can be friendly towards Zeta and Nazboo, to the point she was even hopeful that Zeta was learning the joy of helping others while working as Shimmer and Shine's genie in "Zeta in Training". In "Dragon Tales", she helps Zeta find Nazboo, by cleverly using Nazboo's love of tummy rubs by using a microphone she wished up to lure Nazboo right to her by offering free tummy rubs. In "Unground Bound", it is revealed that Leah must wear her genie bottle necklace in order for Shimmer and Shine to grant wishes, as Shimmer and Shine will grant wishes of anyone wearing it even against their will.
- Zac (voiced by Blake Bertrand U.S. version and Innis Robertson-Pinnell in the UK version) – Leah's neighbor and best human friend. In the first season, he is oblivious to the fact that Leah has genies. Whenever something strange or unusual happens, he responds to it in a carefree manner. He also has a habit of telling humorous experiences he has had to Leah. In "A Very Genie Halloweenie", Leah introduces Shimmer and Shine to Zac as friends of hers dressed as genies for Halloween. Zac has a carefree attitude and adventurous personality. He is shown to have some ability at fixing and repairing things and in "Spaceship Wrecked" even managed to fix an alien spaceship. In the second season, he learns that Leah has genies after he and Leah are accidentally transported to Zahramay Falls by one of Zeta's spells, though takes the news in stride and is enthusiastic about it. After aiding Leah and her genies in thwarting an attempt to take Shimmer and Shine's Genie Gem, Princess Samira grants his and Leah's wish to be able to visit Zahramay Falls whenever they want. Princess Samira later assigns Kaz to be his genie. Like Leah, he wears a genie disguise while visiting Zahramay Falls. In "Wishy Washy Genie", while enjoying a day in Zahramay Falls, Zac accidentally wishes to live there forever using up his last wish which prevents him from returning to his and Leah's world as he said "I wish" without thinking forcing Kaz to grant it. At first Zac reacts in his usually carefree manner, until he asks for some mustard, only to find it doesn't exist in Zahramay Falls, causing him to quickly change his mind and begs Kaz and the others undo the wish, though Shimmer and Shine reveal Leah's wishes would not be powerful enough to undo Zac's wish. Kaz suggests they have they find the Wishy Washy Genie who has the power to wash away any wish, but Shimmer and Shine believe the Wishy Washy Genie is a myth. Leah decides that they can at least try and wishes to find the Wishy Washy Genie, causing them to be transported to his location, proving the legendary genie to be real. However they find the Wishy Washy Genie is very indecisive and worries over even the simplest of decisions, though they manage to convince him to help but first he needs his scepter. With the help of Leah, Zac, and their Genies they manage to help the Wishy Washy Genie to become more decisive and after helping him make it back home, he uses his power to undo Zac's wish, allowing him to once again leave Zahramay Falls.
- Zeta the Sorceress (voiced by Lacey Chabert U.S. and UK version) – A resident of Zahramay Falls who wishes to be the most powerful person in Zahramay Falls (more powerful than any genie) and is the series first antagonist. Unlike most of the residence of Zahramay Falls, Zeta is a Sorceress instead of a genie, as she has no desire to grant the wishes of others. Her plans are almost always thwarted by Shimmer, Shine, and Leah. However, sometimes Zeta's own arrogance and/or ignorance causes her to foil her own schemes, such as stealing a gem or magic object for its power only to have it backfire, causing her to lose it. Leah and her genies have also learned that they can use Zeta's power hungry nature against her, such as in "Double Trouble" when Leah tricked Zeta into creating an army of Zeta duplicates who immediately began arguing with one another due to them having the same self-centered personality as Zeta. Zeta can also be petty and is a poor sport as she is more than willing to cheat in order win. Instead of a Magic Carpet, Zeta rides on a flying motorcycle that runs on flying carpet dust, though it is prone to breaking down and/or running out of fuel. Despite being enemies with Leah and her genies, Zeta is shown to be willing to put aside her dislike for them when Nazboo becomes sick and allows them to obtain Dragon Peppers for her while she takes care of the sick Nazboo. It is also shown that Zeta does truly care about Nazboo, despite treat him like an underling most of the time. In "Zeta in Training", it is revealed that Zeta was originally a genie in training and the only one to not complete the training due to Zeta's selfishness and her decision to quit and become an all powerful sorceress instead. However, in "Zeta in Training", Princess Samira gives Zeta a Second Chance in honor of Second Chance Day, which Zeta agrees to in the hopes that it will make her more powerful. However Samira prevents Zeta from granting her own wishes and assigns her to be Shimmer and Shine's genie. Zeta decides she will fine a way to trick Shimmer and Shine into making a wish for her, though her plan ends up backfiring due to the way Zeta phrased the wish and the Genie Gem she summons is removed by one of Leah's wishes. Shortly before granting her final wish, it is shown that Zeta is so selfish to the point that she wasn't even aware what being selfless meant and scoffed at the idea that anyone would want to think about others instead of themself. Afterwards, Zeta tells Samira she quits again as selflessly granting wishes of others is too hard for her. In "Potion Control", it is revealed that Zeta is a expert when it comes to potion making, a talent she is quite proud of and is quick to boost about. Her expertise when it comes to potions is for the most part shown to be true and she is shown to be know how to make a potion to undo a spell caused by Shimmer and Shine accidentally mixing the wrong potions that caused Nazboo to inflate like a balloon. Zeta is once again forced to work with Leah and her genies to help keep Nazboo from floating away while they go to get the antidote. While working together, Zeta even finds herself uncharacteristically being nice to them to the point of even thanking them politely, though is immediately horrified and embarrassed when doing so. With their help, she manages to cure Nazboo. While she is an expert on potions, it is shown that Zeta can still make mistakes as shown when she combined the same potions that caused Nazboo to inflate while arrogantly pointing out only amateurs like Shimmer and Shine would make such a mistake, accidentally causing herself to inflate like Nazboo, demonstrating that Zeta's arrogance sometimes causes her to do things without thinking. In "Dragon Tales", while looking for Nazboo, Zeta encounters Leah and her genies and ends up telling them the story of how Nazboo became her pet. However Zeta embellishes the story, portraying herself as powerful by capturing the larger dragons with her magic and uncharacteristically chooses Nazboo over claiming that she selflessly took Nazboo home with her as the other dragons where mean to him. Leah and her genies are somewhat skeptical of Zeta's portrayal of herself in the story. Leah helps Zeta find Nazboo with a wish and he refutes Zeta's claim the other dragons where mean to him and tells the true story of how they met. Both versions of the story, reveal Zeta went to the land of Dragons to find a dragon to be her pet and the first Dragon she encounters is Nazboo. However Nazboo reveals that Zeta tried to order one of the larger dragons to be her pet, though it politely refused and Zeta tried to force it to be her pet, only for it to backfire and she was carried off into the sky by the Dragon. Nazboo tells Zeta to let go promising he will catch her. While he does get into a tree in order to rescue Zeta and tries to catch her, she ends up landing in a branch next them him unharmed. Zeta becomes depressed and starts crying over her failure, causing Nazboo to offer to be her pet dragon, though Zeta is reluctant as he is small and cute, not large and powerful like the others, though she ultimately agrees as Nazboo is obedient and willing to be her pet. Zeta is forced to half-heartedly admit Nazboo's version was the truth. It is also revealed that Zeta has developed a slight fear of large dragons due to her failed attempt to tame one as she cowers when she mistakes a Zoomicorn's shadow for one and tries to paint them as mean bullies in her story.
- Princess Samira (voiced by Nikki SooHoo U.S. version and Cariad Lloyd in the UK version) – The ruler of Zahramay Falls, who is in charge of checking up on all the genies in training. She can grant wishes along with the younger genies. She occasionally rewards genies with magic Genie Gems that produce a variety of magical effects depending on the type of gem. She may also task genies with obtaining a particular gem. Though humans are normally not allowed in Zahramay Falls, she makes an exception for Zac and Leah after they are accidentally transported there by one of Zeta's spells and permits Leah to keep her genies despite Zac having learned of their existence as a result. However though she allows Leah and Zac to visit Zahramay Falls as a result of granting their special wish with Shimmer and Shine, she requires them to disguise themselves as genies in order to blend in with the other residents of Zahramay Falls. As a result, Leah and Zac magically don genie disguises while visiting Zahramay Falls. In "Bling Bling", she gives Leah and her genies the task of taking her special necklace to be polished, which is later stolen by Zeta. Leah and her genies manage to get the necklace back and Samira reveals that it is not a magical necklace as Leah, her genies, and Zeta had assumed, but was a special gift that Samira received from her teacher back when she was a genie-in-training. In "Staffinated", it is revealed that Samira's magic staff uses wishing magic and thus its magic cannot be undone using a wish. In "The Crystal Queen", Zeta captures Samira and seals her inside a crystal atop the head of Rohan the guardian of the Caliana Caves. Leah and her genies are forced to seek help from Samira's mentor, Queen Caliana to free Samira.
- Kaz (voiced by Jet Jurgensmeyer U.S. version and Harrison Noble in the UK version) – A genie in training who lives in Zahramay Falls who appears in Season 2 as Zac's genie. In contrast to Zac's easy-going and adventurous personality, Kaz is more cautious and scares easily. Despite their contrasting personalities, Zac and Kaz work well together. Like most genies in Zahramay Falls, he has his own magic carpet. He first appears in "A Tree-mendous Rescue", where he is initially scared when he learns Zac and Leah are normal humans upon first meeting them, as he had never met non-magical people before. Along with Shimmer and Shine, he is assigned the task of finding a Genie Gem located in a forest by Princess Samira. Along with Zac and Leah, they manage to find the gem, which turns out to be a Matching Gem, a Genie Gem that matches genies with their perfect person. The gem produces a Genie Lamp for Zac and Princess Samira reveals that the gem has assigned Kaz to be Zac's genie. As a result, he occasionally joins the main cast on their adventures. In "Zany Ziffilon", he reveals his desire to have a Ziffilon as his magical pet and Zac wishes for a Ziffilon for Kaz. As a result, Kaz gains a pet Ziffilon which he names Zain. In "Feel Better", he is one of the genies effected by the Sneezy Bug dust causing him to sneeze and produce out of control magic, turning Zac into a Zoomicorn. Though Kaz is horrified and is quick to apologize to Zac, Zac enjoys being a Zoomicorn. Kaz ends up sneezing again turning himself into a chicken. They end up trapped in bubbles when Leah tries to turn them back to normal with a wish, which backfires due to her genies sneezing while trying to grant her wish though fortunately one of the sneezes stops the bubbles from floating away. Leah later cures Kaz using the Zahramay Bluebell to cause the Sneezy Bug to stop the sneezing undoing the crazy magic they produced, causing Kaz and Zac to return to normal to Kaz's relief, while Zac wants to become a Zoomicorn again as he enjoyed it.
- Empress Caliana - (also referred to as Queen Caliana) is Princess Samira's mentor who was first mentioned by Samira in "Bling Bling" when she reveals her teacher was the one who gave Samira her special necklace back when she was studying under Caliana as a genie-in-training. Empress Caliana makes her first appearance in "The Crystal Queen" where Leah and her genies seek Caliana's help when Zeta seals Samira in a crystal deep inside the Caliana Caves which contain crystals that absorb wishing magic. Empress Caliana guides them to the Caliana Caves which were named after Empress Caliana after she discovered them when she was a little girl, revealing she used to go on all sorts of adventures when she was young. Together with Leah and her genies, they manage to find and free Princess Samira. She is very powerful and can use magic capable of effecting and even transforming the crystals within Caliana Caves into other objects like ornate bridges and stairs. She is also old friends with Rohan, the normally shy crystalline golem that guards the caves. Though Princess Samira is no longer her student, they remain close as Samira still treasures the necklace Caliana gave her and Caliana is proud of her former student and is happy to learn that Samira is training such wonderful students like Shimmer and Shine.
- Layla – An Ice Genie who appears in "Freeze-amay Falls". She possesses an ice gem necklace that gives her freezing powers and keeps her body cold. She originally lived in a genie bottle buried on a sandy beach in Zahramay Falls, but it was accidentally broken by Leah and her genies. Her necklace is briefly stolen by Zeta, though she is later forced to give it back to Layla when its power freezes Zeta. Leah and her genies later help Layla find a new home and end up selecting the Ice Palace from "Snow Place We'd Rather Be" as Layla's new home. Despite getting her necklace back, she decides to keep the large Shiver Cone (ice cream Cone) Leah and her genies gave her to wear on her head to keep her cool, as she found it to be the perfect hat for an Ice Genie like herself. In "Bling Bling", it is mentioned she has become friends with Princess Samira. In "Frosty Fun", she briefly appears as the beginning of the episode building a giant snowman with Leah and her genies.
- Shaya – A Lightning Genie in training who appears in "Lightning in a Bottle". He rides around on a flying cloud-board and can generate magical lightning. Leah and her genies help him catch a run away magic lightning bolt he created while practicing his magic. Though he is reluctant to work with Leah and her genies at first, he eventually learns the value of teamwork from them. In "Zoomicorn Toss", he participates in the Zoomicorn Toss Tournament along with Leah, Shimmer, Shine, Kaz, Zac, and Zeta, but fails to make it past the first round. In "Feel Better", Shaya is the only genie shown not to be wary of Sneezy Bugs and doesn't mind to be afflicted by magic sneezes, even wondering what crazy magic he will produce, though is disappointed when his sneeze causes a magic lightning strike, which he reveals always happens, while at the same time he seems somewhat oblivious to the dangerous nature of his magic sneezes due to the magic lightning they produce. Fortunately, Leah manages to dodge the lightning strikes and manages to get the bug to sniff the Zahramay Bluebell allowing it to cure the genies and undo the sneezing magic, curing Shaya and the other genies.
- Nila – A mermaid who lives in the waters near Zahramay Falls that Leah and her genies befriend in "Mermaid Mayhem". When Leah uses up all her wishes, preventing Leah and her Genies from returning to their non-mermaid selves, she assists Leah and her genies in acquiring the Mermaid Gem, which allows its user to transform into a mermaid and back. She is almost like Zeta.
- Guardian of the Mermaid Gem – The guardian of the Mermaid Gem is a mermaid with octopus-like tentacles instead of a fish tail, who acts as a minor antagonist in "Mermaid Mayhem", as she guards the Mermaid Gem that Leah and her genies require to return to their non-mermaid selves. Originally described as a sea monster by Nila, it is revealed that her sea monster persona is actually just a facade and the guardian is actually just lonely mermaid who keeps the Mermaid Gem in her cave so people will visit her. Nila, Leah, and the genies offer to be her friends and Shimmer decorates her cave with sea-stars to lighten up her cave. Happy to have made friends, she gives the Mermaid Gem to Leah and her genies so they can visit her and Nila.
- Zia & Niva - Two mischievous Frost sprite siblings who appear in "Frosty Fun". They live in the snowy forest near Layla's Ice Palace and end up following Leah and her genies back to Shimmer & Shine's palace where they end up causing trouble with the freezing magic while competing with one another in various winter games, forcing Leah to use her wishes to undo their magic. Eventually they end up creating a large snowball while playing Snow Pins and Snowballs, which they end up getting trapped as it rolls, forcing Leah and her genies to work together to save them after they fall off the cloud that Shimmer and Shine's palace floats on. Afterwards they apologize for the trouble they cause and end up befriending Leah and her genies.
- Captain Zora - A pirate genie who appears in "The Pirate Genie". She sails through the sky in a flying pirate ship with her mysterious magical pet Scallywag. She is somewhat forgetful as usually relies on Scallywag to remind her of things. She has an adventurous personality and is a friendly pirate who sails the skies searches for treasure and adventure.
- Dalia - A genie who works as a Magic Carpet vendor and designer in Zahramay Falls whom Shimmer looks up to who appears in "Carpet Troubles". During the episode, Shimmer introduces her to Leah and she shows the girls where she designs and makes carpets, even offering to let Shimmer give carpet making a try. When Shimmer fails, Dalia tells her it was a good first try and not to get discouraged.
- Wishy Washy Genie - An legendary older male genie who has the power to wash away any wish who appears in "Wishy Washy Genie". When Zac accidentally wishes to stay in Zahramay Falls forever, Kaz suggests they find Wishy Washy Genie though Shimmer and Shine believe he is just a myth. Leah uses one of her wishes to take them to him and find him proving Kaz was right about him being real. Kaz is a fan of his and was excited to meet him. The Wishy Washy Genie is quite indecisive constantly worrying over decisions he has to make living up to the phrase Wishy Washy. Leah, Zac, and their genies help guide the Wishy Washy Genie to his house so they can retrieve his scepter so he can wash away Zac's wish but his indecisive personality makes the journey difficult. With some encouragement from Leah, he starts making a decision and sticking to it. After they make it to his house, the Wishy Washy Genie starts to revert back to being indecisive but they remind him that he has been making decisions all along their journey and he decides to undo Zac's wish, learns to be more decisive. After undoing Zac's wish, he enters his house and excited by his newfound self confidence in decision making, he happily starts opening all the doors in his house as he used to worry about even simple decisions like opening a door.
Animals[edit]
- Tala (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker U.S. and UK version) – Shimmer's pet gibbon monkey.[citation needed] She has green eyes and wears white pearls, like Shimmer does. Tala is shown to be a talented dancer in both "Happy Wishaversary" (when she plays a dancing video game with Zac) and in "Untamed Talent" (where she dances at the Zahramay Falls Pet Talent Show).
- Nahal (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker U.S. and UK version) – Shine's white Bengal tiger[citation needed] cub. She wears pink jewels and a gold circlet, like Shine does. In "Untamed Talent" it is revealed that Nahal has a talent for playing the keyboard. Humorously she is shown to be better at playing the keyboard when she was distracted by a magical feather that Zeta tried to use in an attempt to distract her and ruin her performance.
- Nazboo (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker U.S. and UK version) – Zeta's pet dragon, who caters to her every need and acts as Zeta's underling. He is somewhat clumsy and often accidentally causes Zeta's schemes to backfire. He can also get easily distracted by food and/or anything that piques his interest. He also enjoys getting occasional tummy rub from Zeta. Despite being Zeta's underling, he is shown to get along well with Tala in "Lost and Found". Though he generally follows along with Zeta in her schemes, he can be more civil towards Leah, her genies, and their friends as shown in "Zoomicorn Toss" when he points out that using magic during the competition wouldn't be fair to the competition and cheered for Shine after she saved the runaway Zoomicorn and Zeta. Zeta's flying motorcycle has a side car and helmet for Nazboo. In "Dragon Pox", Nazboo becomes sick with the Dragon Pox and it is revealed by that only a Dragon Pepper can cure him. It is also revealed that using wishing magic on Dragons like Nazboo is dangerous, as it usually ends up going wrong. Leah and her genies offer to retrieve the Dragon Peppers and manage to obtain enough of them to not only cure Nazboo, but also got enough extra pepper for Zeta if Nazboo gets sick again. Leah also uses one of her wishes to give Nazboo a pile of squeaky toys, showing that it is possible to grant a wish for a Dragon. In "Untamed Talent", Nazboo again demonstrates his sense of fair play when he remains Zeta that using magic in the pet talent competition would be against the rules, but Zeta does so anyways, though her efforts end up backfiring, making their competition look good. Zeta decides to switch tactics and tries to improve Nazboo's act with magic, but it backfires causing the stage to collapse. However Nazboo bravely and skillful manages to get Parisa, Nahal, Tala out of danger and saves Princess Samira and Roya from falling pillar. For his bravery, Princess Samira announces Nazboo as the winner of the contest, however he foils Zeta's plan to wish for a genie gem that would make her all powerful, when Nazboo wishes for a Gem Squeaky Toy instead. In "Dragon Tales", it is revealed that Nazboo original lived in Manetikar, the Land of Dragons until he met Zeta who had come there to make one of the Dragons there her pet. In Zeta's embellished version of the story, the other bigger Dragons were depicted as being mean to Nazboo and Zeta uses her potions and magic to capture them save for Nazboo, which causes them to want to be Zeta's pet, but Zeta ends up choosing Nazboo over them and claims that she couldn't leave poor Nazboo to be bullied by them. In Nazboo's truthful version, he reveals the other bigger dragons were friendly and that Zeta tried to order one to be her pet but it refused and ended up flying off with Zeta when she tried to force it to be her pet. Nazboo tells Zeta to let go and he will catch her, which she does. While Nazboo skillfully jumps into a nearby tree to catch Zeta, though he fails to catch her though she fortunately lands safely in a branch next to him. Zeta becomes depressed at her inability to get a Dragon to be her pet and starts crying, causing Nazboo to offer to be her pet, though she is reluctant as she is unsure if Nazboo is a dragon and due to the fact he is not as fearsome looking as the others, but ends up agreeing and takes Nazboo home to her lair. After Nazboo finishes his story, Zeta is reluctantly and half-heartedly forced to admit it to be the truth.
- Roya (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker U.S. and UK version) – Princess Samira's pet peacock, who resides in her palace. In "The Crystal Queen", Roya defends Samira's palace from Zeta and Nazboo when they attempt to take up residence there after Zeta imprisons Samira in the Caliana Caves. After Samira is freed, Zeta willingly leaves the palace in order to get away from Roya.
- Parisa – A Zahramay Fox that Leah befriends in "Now You See Her". After helping Leah and her genies foil Zeta's plan to use a camouflage potion to steal their Genie Gems and having bonded with Leah, Parisa becomes Leah's magical pet. As Parisa is a magical creature, Leah uses one of her wishes to create a place for Parisa to live near the fountain in the courtyard of Shimmer and Shine's palace which appears small on the outside, yet big on the inside. As Parisa is a Zahramay Fox, she possesses the ability to camouflage herself, making her practically invisible. This ability makes her incredibly stealthy to the point she was able to covertly follow Zeta and Nazboo to Shimmer and Shine's palace while they were under the effects of Zeta's camouflage potion. In "Untamed Talent", Parisa reveals she has a talent for painting.
- Zain – Kaz's pet Ziffilon (a griffin-like creature) which first appeared in "Zany Ziffilon". When Kaz reveals he had always wanted a pet Ziffilon, Zac uses one of his wishes to wish up a Ziffilon for Kaz. However the Ziffilon becomes scared of its new surroundings and flees, forcing Kaz, Zac, Leah, and her genies to chase the frightened Ziffilon through Zahramay Falls. Eventually Kaz manages to befriend the Ziffilon after feeding it Zlam Berries. After it agrees to become Kaz's pet, Kaz names it Zain. Zain is by far the largest of the pets, as it is big enough for Kaz to ride on its back.
- Rohan - The Guardian of the Caliana Caves who appears to be a crystalline golem. Despite his fearsome appearance, he is actually a shy, gentle giant. However, in "The Crystal Queen", Zeta's spell causes him to become aggressive to the point he attacked Queen Caliana, Leah, and her genies when they came to free Princess Samira who had been sealed inside a crystal atop Rohan's head. Shimmer and Shine manage to remove Zeta's enchantment and Rohan returns to his normal self.
- Chicken – A giant chicken with green feathers that Zeta accidentally created when she used Samira's magic staff on a tree in "Staffinated", which she uses to terrorize the citizens of Zahramay Falls. However the chicken is turned into a normal sized chicken by one of Leah's wishes and humorously tries to befriend Samira's pet, Roya. It appears as a background character in "Lightning in a Bottle".
- Gobi the Glob - An animated glob of Gooey Gummy Genie Jelly candy accidentally created by Leah and her genies in "The Glob" when a piece of Gooey Gummy Genie Jelly fell into a potion that had spilled when a storm called a Glitternado hit Shimmer and Shine's palace. Named by Leah, Gobi is both friendly and curious, but is also very sticky, which causes objects and people to stick to him quite easily. He is shown to have a naïve and childlike personality. He is also quite bouncy and can stretch his arms, though his stickiness can sometimes cause problems. However, when the Glitternado hits Zahramay Falls Market Place, he helps Leah and her genies rescue some genies that had gotten pulled into the storm by using his stickiness to grab onto the two genies, saving them.
- The Pigs - Two piglets that first appeared in "What a Pig Mess" when Leah's genies mistakenly summoned when Leah wished for Pigs in blankets. They made a brief cameo in "Abraca-Genie", where they appeared along with several other animals that appeared out of Zack's Magic Hat that had been made magical by one of Leah's wishes in an attempt to help Zack's magic act and are later seen in Zack's house after Zack had successfully made them disappear without the help of Leah and her genies. In "Escape Goat", it is revealed that they live in a Petting Zoo along with Sprinkles the Goat. Zack also reveals that the male pig is named Oninkers and the female is named Pinkie. Oninkers and Pinkie help Zack in perfecting his pig calling for the pig calling contest.
- Sprinkles - A goat who lives at the petting zoo with the Pigs and his best friend Dixie the chicken. He first appears in "Abraca-Genie" as one of the animals summoned by Zack's magic hat though is unnamed. Sprinkles is properly introduced in "Escape Gat" where Leah reveals he is named Sprinkles because he sprinkles food whenever he eats. During the episode, Sprinkles escapes his pin to visit his friend Dixie when Leah leaves a gate open, forcing Leah to summon her genies to help catch him. They eventually find him at Dixie's chicken coop and Leah makes a wish that creates a bridge that allows Sprinkles to visit Dixie and Sprinkles visit each other whenever they want.
- Dixie - A chicken who lives at the petting zoo with the Pigs and her best friend Sprinkles the goat. She appears in "Escape Goat".
- Nopal – A friendly alien with magical powers who appears in "Spaceship Wrecked". Leah and her genies meet him, his spaceship is accidentally summoned by one of Leah's wishes. Like Shimmer and Shine, Nopal possess magic powers and can levitate in the air. Nopal also possesses special alien magic such as teleportation. After another wish mistake breaks Nopal spaceship, Leah and her genies work to fix his spaceship, however they are unable to fix it themselves. When Zac shows up, Leah introduce him to Nopal without revealing her genies existence or involvement to Zac. After learning that Nopal's spaceship is broken, Zac takes a look and manages to fix it. Nopal uses his powers on Zac's walkie-talkie allowing him and Nopal to communicate. Nopal also teaches Shimmer how to use alien teleportation magic.
- Mr. Crab – A hermit crab who claimed Zac's Dream Shell in "Ahoy, Genies!" and was referred to as Claude by Zac. He refused to give up his shell to Zac and even manages to beat Zac in a staring contest for ownership of it. In another episode, he was caught by Shimmer and Shine while fishing and is referred to as Mr. Crab. In "Santa's Little Genies", he befriends Santa Claus when he is accidentally transported to an island by one of Leah's wishes and Santa even offered Mr. Crab the option of coming to work for him at the North Pole.
- Rainbow - A tiger found in the Temple of the Rainbow Tiger by Shine and Nahal who appears in "Bungle in the Jungle". Unlike Nahal, Rainbow is fully grown and has a somewhat intimidating appearance due to her size, though is just as friendly and playful as Nahal. Rainbow apparently lives within the Temple itself as Rainbow is knowledgeable about the traps and layout of the temple itself. Shine befriends Rainbow after helping remove a splinter out of her paw and Rainbow helps Shine and Nahal escape the room they were trapped in by Zeta. Shine gives her the name Rainbow which she likes and is introduced to Leah and Shimmer after they all manage to escape the rooms they were trapped in. Rainbow helps show them the way out and playfully attacks the hanging cage that Zeta and Nazboo accidentally got trapped in, scaring Zeta, though Shine reveals she meant no harm and asks Rainbow to help free them, though Zeta is still terrified by Rainbow despite the tiger's friendly nature.
- Scallywag - A floating unknown animal that belongs to Zora who appeared in "The Pirate Genie". She helps remember everything for Zora and when Sallcywag gets frightened her magic goes out of hand making things around her float and making monsters appear.
- Gazi - A shape changing seacritter who appeared in "Trick or Treasure". He loves treasure and greedily tries to steal the treasure found by Nila, Leah, and her genies. However after working with the girls to deal with a hungry Zahramay Shark, the girls manage to teach Gazi it is better to share with others and befriends them.
- Cog - A Grunt who lives underground with the other Grunts in Zahramay Falls who acts as an antagonist in "Underground Bound". Unlike his fellow Grunts he is somewhat grumpy individual who dislikes digging and prefers to invent things such as a drilling machine to make digging easy, though his inventions don't seem to work. He ends up finding Leah's Genie Bottle necklace after it fell off while Leah was swinging. While trying to get his machine to work, he accidentally makes a wish which Shine grants causing his machine to start working though goes out of control leading him to the surface. Leah and her genies discover her necklace is missing after the wish is granted and encounter Cog who refuses to give the necklace back once he learns it is magic. He accidentally wishes to get away and Shimmer creates a wall against her will due to the necklace being in Cog's possession. Cog shows the necklace to his fellow Grunts and he tries to wish for no more digging but does not say "I wish" causing his wish to fail. He tries to figure out how to make it work, before accidentally saying he wished he knew how it worked in frustration causing his third wish to be granted causing a Grunt to magically tell him how to make a wish correctly. Cog tries to wish to be the ruler of the Grunts but as he had used up that day's third wish, it fails. Leah and her Genies inform him that the wearer of the necklace only gets three wishes causing him to throw the necklace away believing that he had used up all its wishes, allowing Leah to retrieve it only to inform Cog it only grants three wishes per day, causing Cog to want it back, but they tell him that it doesn't belong to him. Leah and her genies decide to join the Grunts in digging, convincing a reluctant Cog to join in, only to find himself starting to enjoy it.
Magical & Non-Magical species[edit]
- Aliens - A race of extraterrestrials from outer space introduced in "Spaceship Wreaked". As shown by the Alien Nopal they possess magical abilities such as teleportation, levitation, and fly around space in high tech spacecraft. It is revealed that they can teach alien magic to genies as Nopal taught Shimmer how to teleport. Unlike most magical creatures, they seemingly originate from universe where Leah's world is located.
- Dragons – Dragons are magical creatures that are native to Shimmer and Shines world. In "Dragon Tales", it is revealed that wild dragons live in Manetikar, the Land of Dragons . In "Lights! Camera! Genies!", Leah accidentally summons one with a wish and works with Shimmer and Shine to deal with the trouble it causes. They manage to calm it down by feeding it popcorn. At the end of the episode it appears at Shimmer and Shine's place where it interrupts Shine's puppet play. In Season 2, Zeta's pet dragon Nazboo is introduced though he is smaller than the one wished up by Leah and is apparently a different breed of Dragon. Unlike the Dragon from Season 1, Nazboo is capable of rudimentary speech and is wingless. In "Dragon Pox", it is revealed that using wishing magic on dragons like Nazboo is dangerous, as it always ends up backfiring (unlike the dragon from season 1 which could be affected by wishing magic without any problem). However Leah discovers it is possible to make a wish for a Dragon when she wishes up a load of squeaky toys for Nazboo. It is also shown that Dragons can suffer from a disease called Dragon Pox which can only be cured by Dragon Peppers. In "Dragon Tales", it is revealed that Nazboo originally lived in the Land of Dragons before becoming Zeta's pet and other Dragons are shown. These Dragons are depicted as larger and have wings allowing them to fly. In Zeta's story of how she met Nazboo, these other Dragons are depicted as mean she claims they bullied poor Nazboo, causing Zeta to uncharacteristically choose Nazboo over the stronger more powerful Dragons to protect him from them. However Nazboo refutes this depiction and in his version of the story reveals that the other Dragons where friendly towards him and Zeta. One of the Dragons Zeta orders to become her pet, politely refuses causing Zeta to try and force it to be her pet, but it flies off carrying Zeta. Nazboo manages to save by telling her to let go and offers to be her pet instead, though she is reluctant as she prefers a larger more powerful dragon, but ends up taking Nazboo as he is willing, smaller, cuter, and easier for her to boss around. After Nazboo's story, Zeta is forced to admit Nazboo's version was true, which implies that most Dragons who live in Manetikar are for the most part friendly and good natured like Nazboo despite their fearsome appearance. Zeta herself is shown to have developed a slight fear of large flying dragons as a result of her failed attempt to tame one.
- Genies - The humanoid inhabitants of Zahramay Falls who grant wishes. The genies are ruled by Princess Samira who trains young genies-in-training such as Shimmer, Shine, Kaz, and Zeta before she quit to become an all powerful sorceress instead. In the past, Princess Samira served as a Genie-in-Training under her genie mentor, Empress Caliana, indicating that genie royalty generally oversee the training of genies-in-training. Genies possess various magical abilities such as levitation and powerful wish magic which allows them to grant the wishes of others though only three each day. They can also use other forms of magic such as magic potions and even the alien teleportation magic used by Nopal. Genies can also use special magic gems called Genie Gems which have different effects. In order to grant a wish, the wisher in possession of a genie bottle or lamp must say "Wish" while making it, though the wisher must be careful about saying "Wish" (such as in frustration or unintentionally using the phrase in conversation), as it can lead to making wishes without meaning to. After a wish is made a genie is generally forced to grant the wish even if it is against their will as shown in "Wishy Washy Genie" and "Underground Bound". Anyone in possession of the genie bottle or lamp can make a wish even if they are not the special person assigned to that genie or genies. The Genie must also be able to understand the wisher in order to grant a wish as shown when Leah's voice was switched with a bird. Genies-in-training can misinterpret the wish if it is not specific as Shimmer and Shine often mess up Leah's wishes due to assuming she wanted something else, their unfamiliarity with Leah's world, or interpret the wish differently than what the Leah actually meant, resulting in unintended results though Leah and her genies work together to fix thing. Genie twins like Shimmer and Shine can be assigned to a single person, though this does not double the number of wishes as Leah is still limited to three per day. Genies can grant a wish by themselves or together, and in the case of twins they generally take turns granting wishes, though can also grant them together. As shown by Zeta in "Zeta-in-Training" a genie-in-training can serve two people at the same time, when she served as Shimmer and Shine's genie, though this may be a special case as it was part of her training. A Genie's special person must generally keep their genies existence a secret from other humans, though there are exceptions as Leah introduced Zac to Shimmer and Shine during Halloween whom he assumed where human girls dressed as genies and when Leah introduced her genies to Santa Claus during the Christmas special without any problem. If a person finds out about their existence due to events beyond the special persons control, such as when Zac learned Leah's genies when they were transported to Zahramay Falls by Zeta's spell, Samira allowed to her to keep her genies. Wish magic is extremely powerful to the point it is hard to undo and only the legendary Wishy Washy Genie has the power to undo the effects of a wish. Some forms of wish magic cannot be undo by another wish and can only be undo by the source of the wish magic such as the magic produced by Samira's staff. Wish magic is powerful enough that it can transform genies, humans, and animals into other creatures such as Mermaids though wish magic is usually required to return them to normal. Certain things prevent wish magic from working such as crystals from the Caliana Caves which absorb wish magic and the Dragon Pepper tree. It is dangerous to make a wish that effects a Dragons from the land of Manetikar like Nazboo, as it can lead to unintended or disastrous results. However it is possible to make a wish for a dragon or dragons can make wishes themselves. Samira has the power to grant the power of wish granting to a genie-in-training like she does for Zeta in "Zeta-in-Training" and assigns Zeta to be Shimmer and Shine's genie to learn, showing Genies can grant the wishes of other genies as apparent of their training. If a genie-in-training quits they lose the ability to use wish magic and levitation (as Zeta never levitates), though they can still use other forms of magic such as potions, genie gems, and other magic items. Former female wish granting genies-in-training like Zeta that lack wishing magic are known as Sorceresses. There are several different types of genies, the most common of which are wish granting genies like Shimmer, Shine, Kaz, and Samira. There are also elemental genies that control or produce certain elements, such as Ice Genies like Layla and Lightning Genies like Shaya who is also a genie-in-training. Ice Genies prefer cold climates and wear magic ice necklaces that keep their bodies cold in warm or hot climates, though they lose their ice powers and become vulnerable to heat if the necklace is removed, requiring other means to keep cool. Lightning genies can manipulate magical lightning. There are even Pirate Genies, though the only one shown is Captain Zora. Pirate Genies are adventurous and fly around in Flying Pirate ships in search of treasure and adventure. In "Feel Better", genies are shown to be allergic to the dust produced by Sneezy Bugs which causes them to sneeze producing crazy magic, though in the case of Lighting Genies it commonly produces sneezes that cause magic lightning strikes, which can make wish granting difficult. The only cure is to get the Sneezy Bug to sniff the Zahramay Bluebell flower with causes them to produce dust that cures the genies undoing the magic produced by the sneezing. As a result, Genies are generally wary of Sneezy Bugs due to the magical mayhem caused by their sneezes.
- Humans - People native to Earth like Leah and Zac. Genies are often assigned to a human who is their special person who they grant wishes to as their secret genie such as Shimmer and Shine being assigned to Leah and Kaz being assigned to Zac. Generally humans are not allowed in Zahramay Falls, though they may be allowed under certain circumstances, such as Leah and Zac being accidentally transported to Zahramay Falls and where allowed to visit any time they wanted after Samira, Shimmer, and Shine granted a extra special wish for the both of them, though Samira required Leah and Zac to wear Genie disguises while in Zahramay Falls to blend in as some genies like Kaz have never even encountered a real live human and freaked out at first upon meeting Zac and Leah, though other genies do not seem to not mind there presence. Humans are immune to Sneezy Bug powder and will not sneeze, though they can still be effected by the out of control sneeze magic produced by genies effected by the dust. Like genies, Humans can be magically turned into other creatures such as Mermaids, Ziffilons, and Zoomicorns.
- Mermaids – Most of the Mermaids living in the waters near Zahramay Falls have glittery fish-like mermaid tails. In addition to swimming, Mermaids can breath and talk underwater, though they can also breath air. However rarely some like the Guardian of the Mermaid Gem has octopus-like tentacles instead. Non-Mermaids such as genies and humans can become mermaids via the use of wish magic or via the power of the Mermaid Gem. The Mermaid Gem has the power to turn one into a mermaid and can undo the transformation as well and can even undo a mermaid transformation caused by wish magic. Mermaids where first mentioned in passing by Shimmer in Season 1 episode "Ahoy, Genies" when she excitedly wonders if they will meet any mermaids while exploring a cave before suggesting the possibility of meeting bears, or bears with mermaid tails.
- Ice Sprites - Ice Sprites are fairy-like beings who possess freezing powers similar to ice genies like Layla and live in the Snowy Forest near Layla's Ice Palace. They first appear in "Frosty Fun" when brother and sister frost sprites, Zia and Niva end up following Leah and her genies back to Shimmer and Shine's palace after playing in the snow with Layla.
- Grunts - Sentient gopher-like creatures that live underground in Zahramay Falls introduced in "Underground Bound". While they are not magical they are really good at digging. Most Grunts are shown to be friendly and happily enjoy digging, save for Cog a somewhat grumpy Grunt who prefers to invent things and dislikes digging to the point he tries to wish for the Grunts to stop digging to with Leah's Genie Bottle necklace but it fails as he did not say "I Wish". The other grunts where horrified at the idea of being unable to dig though were relived when Cog's wish failed. After Leah and her genies manage to retrieve her necklace by convincing him it was useless after he used up his third wish to figure out how it worked, Leah, her genies, and the other grunts convince him to dig and Cog finds himself enjoying it.
- Zoomicorns – Zoomicorns are winged unicorns that live near Zahramay Falls and as their name implies they can fly very fast. They first appeared in "Snow Place We'd Rather Be" where a herd of them saved Leah and her genies after their flying carpet froze while on their way to the Ice Palace. In "Zoomicorn Toss", it is shown that there is a popular sport called Zoomicorn Toss where the players riding cloudboards toss rings around a Zoomicorn's horn as it flies around without using magic. In "Feel Better", Zac is accidentally transformed into a Zoomicorn by one of Kaz's magic sneezes after being exposed to Sneezy Bug dust, though Zac is excited by the transformation. Leah later cures Kaz of his sneezing with the Sneezy Bug which had sniffed a Zahramay Bluebell causing it to cure the afflicted genies which undoes the magic caused by their sneezing. In "Dragon Tales", Zeta mistakes a Zoomicorn's shadow for that of one of the large flying dragons mentioned by Zeta and Nazboo causing her to briefly cower in fear until it is revealed to be a Zoomicorn.
- Ziffilons – Ziffilons are griffon-like creatures that live on an island far from Zahramay Falls. In "Zany Ziffilon", Kaz reveals he has always wanted one as a pet, causing Zac to wish up a Ziffilon for Kaz, who manages to befriend it and names it Zain. Their favorite food is Zlam Berries and are big enough for a person to ride on.
- Zahramay Foxes – Zahramay foxes are rare magical foxes native to Zahramay Falls. They possess the ability to camouflage themselves, making them practically invisible. In "Now You See Her", Leah befriends a Zahramay Fox named Parisa and it is revealed that dip of a paw from a Zahramay Fox is one of the ingredients for a camouflage potion, which Zeta tries to use in an scheme to steal Shimmer and Shine's genie gems, but it is foiled by Parisa who follows them to Shimmer and Shine's palace. Having bonded with Leah, Parisa ends up becoming Leah's magical pet and takes up residence in Parisa's Place (a mini-palace that small on the outside but big on the inside), a home for Parisa located near the fountain in the courtyard of Shimmer and Shine's palace wished up by Leah.
- Zahraramay Sharks - Sharks native to the waters of Zahramay Falls that appear in "Trick and Treasure". They are apparently carnivorous as one is shown hunting Gazi at various points during the episode.
- Sneezy Bug - A ladybug like insect that appears in "Feel Better". Genies are shown to be quite wary of them as the dust they sneeze causes genies to sneeze uncontrollably producing crazy magic and can only be cured by getting the Sneezy Bug to sniff a Zahramay Bluebell flower which causes the Sneezy Bug to turn blue and produce a dust that undoes the out of control magic sneezes. Sneezy Bugs by themselves are not malicious as they sneezing is involuntary and they seem to stop sneezing once they sniff a Zahramay Bluebell which apparently alleviates their sneezing and as a result are very fond of Zahramay Bluebell flowers. It is revealed that humans like Leah and Zac are immune to the effects of the dust as it does not make them sneeze though they can still be effected by the out of control magic genie sneezes as Zac is turned into a Zoomicorn by one of Kaz's sneezes, though Zac is thrilled by the transformation. While most genies are wary of Sneezy Bugs, Shaya seems to like them as he wondered what kind of magic his sneezes would produce, only to be disappointed when his sneezes produce magic lightning strikes which he claims happens every time he has been effected by their dust, implying that the sneeze magic produced is more predictable for lightning genies, though the lightning strikes generated are extremely dangerous and strike randomly. Ultimately Leah manages to get the Sneezy Bug to sniff a Zahramay Bluebell and it stops sneezing, and starts producing the dust that cures the genies' sneezes.
- Zuzu Birds - These native to the forests of Zahramay Falls that appear in "The Silent Treatment" and "Boom Zahra-Mom" . When A baby bird mistakes Zeta for its mother she has to care for the bird with Shine's help. The mother bird chases Zeta when she sees her with the baby bird. Zeta mistakes the bird egg for a stone for her potion. Zeta also uses a potion to swap Leah's voice with a bird's voice and her genies need to find a cure to restore her voice. The bird eats Mucky Moss and Zeta feeds it to the bird by her nose and does a dance to make the baby bird sleep. At the end Zeta misses the baby bird when he has to go.
