List of The Legend of Zelda speedrunning records
Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series is well known for its popularity within the speedrunning community. This is a list of some of the fastest speedruns achieved in any of The Legend of Zelda games.
The Legend of Zelda[edit]
The current world record of Any%[Note 1] speedruns for the original The Legend of Zelda was set by Greenmario at 27 minutes and 36 seconds. The record was set on July 5, 2020.
LackAttack24 currently holds the world record in every category in the game, except for Any%, Second Quest Any%, and Second Quest Swordless.

A Link to the Past[edit]
It is possible to speedrun through the original Japanese version of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in only one minute and thirty seconds by making use of a particularly advantageous glitch,[8][9][10] though the current record of beating the game without making use of any "major glitches" belongs to speedrunner RealAlphaGamer, with a time of 1 hour, 23 minutes and 7 seconds.[11]
The world record in the "Major Glitches" category is currently held by Doomtap, with a time of 26 minutes and 2 seconds.[12]
Ocarina of Time[edit]
By using a glitch called Arbitrary Code Execution to skip a majority of the game, it is possible to beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in under 10 minutes.[13] Since the discovery of the Wrong Warp glitch, Any% speedruns of Ocarina of Time have become very popular.
The current record for beating Ocarina of Time 100%, collecting almost every optional item, belongs to American speedrunner ZFG with a time of 3 hours, 28 minutes and 57 seconds.[14] Ocarina of Time was beaten 100% while blindfolded without glitches by American speedrunner Runnerguy2489 in October 2015. This complicated run took around 103 hours to complete.[15]
There are also several other categories that ban major glitches like Wrong Warping, Reverse Bottle Adventure, Bottle Adventure, Get Item Manipulation, Stale Reference Manipulation, and Arbitrary Code Execution.

The Any% World Record for The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is held by speedrunner ki9698 with a time of 24:50.[28] The 100% World Record is held by PopeSquidward with a time of 4 hours 24 minutes 12 seconds.[29][Note 3] The current Any% glitchless world record is currently held by speedrunner raggen with a time of 2:45:31.[30]
On November 12, 2019, speedrunner Exodus122 uploaded a video showcasing a glitch that allows the player to warp to the Moon if executed properly, which reduces the amount of time required to complete a speedrun of the game in most categories by a substantial amount. The long-fabled "Moon Warp" in this initial form utilizes a glitch called Stale Reference Manipulation (SRM), which allows for the overwriting of actor data by unloading an actor that is attached to another actor, and then loading something else in its place. SRM is still undergoing research for use in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask speedruns.[31]
On February 1, 2020, speedrunner SeedBorn uploaded a video explaining how to use a method similar to that of Ocarina of Time's Arbitrary Code Execution to warp to the game's ending cutscene,[32] and a week later provided a tool-assisted demonstration of how that could be used in an actual run.[33]

The Wind Waker[edit]
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is known for its storage glitch, which allows one to retain control of characters while activating different states or cutscenes, leading to many different sequence breaks. While this saved a tremendous amount of time, for 17 years the Wind Waker speedrun time was still significantly held back by there being no known way to skip a barrier that separated an area accessible very early in the game from the final dungeon. However, on July 5, 2019, a way to skip the barrier was finally found using an actor unloading glitch, which involves filling up the game's dynamic memory to the point that actors fail to load, including the barrier.[36]
In the months following this major discovery, the Any% record fell by over 2 and a half hours. In August 2019, a way to "superswim" without pausing was found.[37] In January 2020, a 2nd method to skip the barrier was found.[38] This setup involved a technique known as a "bomb push" and does not require actor unloading, thus allowing for skipping obtaining the grappling hook, which is needed to perform the glitch actor unloading.
The current Any% world record is 53:08 by speedrunner Iwabi74.[39] The 100% record for The Wind Waker is held by Demon with a time of 6:17:24.[40]

Wind Waker HD[edit]
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is notable for being faster than its Standard Definition counterpart for various reasons. Mainly, a glitch called item sliding allows for building up horizontal speeds incredibly quickly, leading to faster movement and sequence breaks.
In April 2017 a glitch called "Barrier Skip"[42] was perfected that allowed players to lower the record time by almost 2 hours. However, a very luck-dependent event near the end of the game made runs more irregular. Starting in November 2017, a new route making more use of the superswim glitch[43] further lowered the record by about 15 minutes. In January 2018, a way to circumvent the luck-dependent event was discovered.[44] In March 2019, a way to skip obtaining bombs was discovered.[45] In May 2020, a way to use RNG manipulation to easily complete the Sploosh Kaboom minigame was found which is very useful for the 100% category.[46]
The current Any% World Record for Wind Waker HD is 52:21 by mralberto23.[47] The 100% record for Wind Waker HD is held by Linkus7 with a time of 5:24:39.[48]

Notes[edit]
- ↑ "Any%" refers to beating a game in the lowest amount of time possible, without restrictions on the use of any glitches that may be present in the game.
- ↑ "Extreme rules" requires the player to defeat all bosses/minibosses, visit every dungeon room and obtain both bomb upgrades, all maps and compasses and the silver arrow. All of this must be done without glitch exploitation, without killing any overworld enemies and without the use of the majority of items (including, but not limited to: swords, extra hearts potions, rings and boomerangs.
- ↑ 100% completion of Majora's Mask refers to collecting all heart pieces and containers, all items, all masks, all songs, all fairy rewards, all upgrades, all dungeon maps and compasses, all Tingle maps, all owls, and all happiness seals in the Bomber's Notebook
