Supermarket presence can be traced down in Bangladesh right after Bangladesh Liberation war[1].In that time Canteen Stores Department (CSD) a Superstore chain managed by Ministry of Defense operating in Major Military bases. Supermarket culture Re-entered into Bangladesh early 2000.Since that time the sector has seen phenomenal growth.Though it is still in its embryonic stages but rapid growth showing an importance of acceptance of supermarket.Supermarkets are mostly found in bigger cities like Dhaka, Chittagong etc.Currently few local conglomerates are leading supermarket business, namely ACI Ltd ,Rahim Afroz Group, Meena Bazaar etc[2]. Beside Conglomerates some other private company have started under their own brand name such as Nandan Mega Shop,Sad Musa City Center, Prince Bazar, Priyo Departmental Stores, Almas General Stores,Al-Amin,Family Needs,Pick & pay,Shop-N-Save.Government also encouraging private sectors to invest in retail Industries.With support from Government, Supermarkets are wishing to expand throughout the country. In 2012, Niaz Rahim, president of Bangladesh Supermarket Owners' Association, told the press that by 2021 Supermarkets to grow manifold and Revenue will be Tk 2.0 Billion. Also, members of the Association informed that as of 2012 there were 100 stores operating around the country and their growth is steady[3].
