Lithino

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Lithino is describing the printmaking process of lithography on traditional lino. It was first developed by Mary Dalton MA RCA in early 2021.

The initial research was taken to the 8th International Lithographic Symposium at Tidaholm in Sweden in a lecture by Simon Burder of Oaks Fine Art.

The first paper on the early technique is found on Academia.edu under the title of The Wonders of Printing Lithographically on Lino. [1]

Details of the process were first published by Crowood Press in a commissioned book entitled Expressive Printmaking by Mary Dalton. [2]

The lithino process was further publicised by Printmaking Today in issue 127 Autumn 2023. [3]

The process allows for autographic and expressive marks to be drawn upon the surface of traditionally lino. A method of preparation and stabilisation had been developed by Mary Dalton in order for the traditional lino to be receptive to the materials used in lithography to generate the marks. The lino may also be used as a standard relief lino cut, allowing the artist to combine graphic and autographic mark making on the same printing plate.

The process is taught by Mary Dalton and is practiced by herself and other artists around the world.
