Mission Statement[edit]
According to their website,[1] the LNDCAC's Mission Statement is:
"To provide ambulance service without charge, to help, aid, and assist persons who are sick, infirm, or otherwise disabled by supplying emergency transportation to, from, or between hospitals and/or nursing homes within a 50 mile radius of Little Neck & Douglaston, County of Queens, New York, which is bound by the Cross Island Parkway on the West, Grand Central Parkway on the South, the New York City line on the East, and the Long Island Sound on the North."
Service Areas[edit]
The Little Neck, Queens, Bayside, Queens and Douglaston, Queens areas are primary services areas covered by the LNDCAC on a daily basis. Volunteers sign up using a system called When to Help and arrive at the Headquarters to volunteer at their leisure.
Volunteers are split into two categories; Youth Corps and Adult Corps.
The Youth Corps is a group of High School Aged Students from the Service Area that wish to ride along and observe as well as assist, when certified to do so, in the patient care aspect of EMS.
The Adult Corps, consisting of member 18 years of age and older, are further split into the Attendant, EMT, Driver and Supervisor Tracks. The Crew Chief is considered the Entry Level Supervisor in the organization.
Structure[edit]
The Adult Corps follows a fluid system of unofficial ranks and titles. The Lieutenant through Captain ranks are honorary and are to be held by those who currently or formerly served as Vice Presidents to President, respectively.
The Chief of Operations is the COO in the organization. This person acts similarly to the duties of Chief of Department in a Municipal Agency. The Chief is the head of the agency's operations committee and is the approving authority for operational activities or events.
The Operations Committee is composed of the Chief of Operations and four Operations Officers who manage shifts and events when the Chief of Operations is unable to or is incapacitated.
The Youth Corps elects their own Officers and assign them titles or ranks at their own discretion. The Youth Corps reports to their Adviser and other Associate Advisers while on Agency Time.
