The Livre Officiel des Origines Felines (LOOF) (English: Official Book of Feline Origins) is a registering body of pedigree cats in France. It was established in 1996 and officialised by the French Ministry of Agriculture.[1] Before the formation of LOOF, pedigrees were issued by individual breed clubs.[2]
LOOF also works to promote purebred cats in France, hosting cat shows, issues breed standards, issues and records cattery names, trains and approves judges, and validates titles achieved at cat shows. It also organises training to continually educate breeders in cat breeding and husbandry, allowing people to obtain the "ACACED" certification.[3][4] Because of LOOFs officialisation by the Ministry of Agriculture, for any cat in France to be considered purebred should have a LOOF-issued pedigree.[3]
Recognised breeds[edit]
As of 2022,[update] LOOF recognises 46 different breeds. In alphabetical order, they are:[5]
- A - Abyssinian, American Bobtail, American Curl, American Shorthair, American Wirehair, American Burmese, and Asian (including Tiffanie)
- B - Balinese cat, Bombay cat, Birman, British (including British Longhair), and Burmilla
- C - Ceylon, Chartreux, Chausie, and Cornish Rex
- D - Devon Rex and Donskoy
- E - European Shorthair, English Burmese, Exotic shorthair, and Egyptian Mau
- G - German Rex
- H - Havana Brown and Highland
- J - Japanese Bobtail
- K - Korat and Kurilian Bobtail
- L - LaPerm
- M - Maine Coon, Manx (including Cymric), and Munchkin
- N - Norwegian Forest Cat and Nebelung
- O - Ocicat and Oriental
- P - Persian, Peterbald, and Pixiebob
- R - Ragdoll and Russian
- S - Savannah, Scottish, Selkirk Rex, Siamese, Siberian, Singapura, Sokoke, Somali, and Sphynx
- T - Thai, Tonkinese, Turkish Angora, and Turkish Van
- Y - York Chocolate
