Liz Kate is an American actor, singer and songwriter.[1] Kate is best known for her role as Gemma, in the film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen.[2] Gemma is a new character specifically added to the film and is the best friend of Zoe Murphy, played by Kaitlyn Dever.[3]

In addition to Dear Evan Hansen (film), Kate has appeared in numerous productions over her career as an actor. Kate began acting at age 6 appearing in the feature film Love On The Rocks which premiered at the Atlanta Film Festival in 2010[4] Kate booked Life as We Know It and soon after, she appeared in The Candy Shop, a "modern fairy tale" shedding light upon child sex trafficking, created by the American film studio Whitestone Pictures, starring Doug Jones.[5] Whitestone Motion Pictures’ The Candy Shop with Doug Jones. Kate went on to book several other television appearances as a child, including Lifetime mini-series, Marry Me starring Lucy Liu, [6] and the Tyler Perry hit show, Meet The Browns. At age 7 after she had completed several professional roles, Kate mentored with family member and Tony and Oscar award winning actress, Patricia Neal and continued training in acting with coach and President of SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local, Clayton Landey, Catapult Studios and Carole Kaboya.

Kate began singing and playing guitar at the young age of 5 and was introduced to her now coach of 13 years, vocalist and accomplished songwriter, Vanessa Olivarez. When she was discovered by Matt Arnett and gained the attention of Eddie Owen in Atlanta, Kate was invited to play for showcases and writer’s rounds at popular venues such as Eddie’s Attic, Grocery on Home, Steve’s Live Music, Red Clay Music Foundry, and more. Liz Kate gained experience playing out, filming and writing through her high school years. Kate soon began working with Jan Smith of Jan Smith Studios when she was twelve years old and continues to work with her on major projects involving her music. Kate will be featured on the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack where Mama Jan was her private vocal coach for the role of Gemma. Kate and Olivarez, who also formerly worked under Jan Smith, are currently working on her debut album in Nashville set to release Fall of 2021. College visits led her back to Nashville at Belmont University where she was accepted to the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business under the Songwriting Program.

Personal life[edit]

Kate is Irish and Cherokee Indian descent. Kate attended elementary school and grade school in Georgia and studies at Belmont University in Nashville, TN where she is a songwriting and Music Business major under the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business[7] Kate’s family is heavily involved in the Film/Television industry, her mother, Kat Slatery is an actor, writer and director as well as a professional b-girl and choreographer with a long list of professional credits. Kate's younger sister Harlan Wenonah Rose is also an actor with notable credits at the young age of two.
