Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) is a not-for-profit, member-owned, federally chartered credit union with its headquarters in Raleigh, North Carolina. As of 2017, LGFCU had $1.9 billion in assets and more than 320,000 members.[1]

History[edit]

In 1983, LGFCU[2] was formed out of State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) to focus on serving the needs of local government employees[3], volunteers and their families. That includes EMS workers, city councilors, firefighters, county librarians, police officers, parks and recreation department employees, town clerks, public works employees and more.[4] They received a federal charter on March 24, 1983. LGFCU partners with SECU to offer more than 1,100 CashPoints® ATMs and 250 branches across the state.[5]

In 2018, LGFCU earned the rank of No. 1 Credit Union in North Carolina,[6] in Forbes magazine’s first-ever listing of the Best-In-State Banks and Credit Unions.
