Locals (app)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Locals is a meeting app that was created by Sergey Gonchar, Eugene Nevgen, Natalia Vodianova, and Timon Afinsky.

Background[edit]

Following the sale of MSQRD to Facebook in 2016,[1][2] a number of those that worked on the project began to collaborate on other concepts, including Elbi.[3][4] The two concepts at Locals and Elbi merged in 2020 with some slight alterations. 80% of the funds raised goes to charity, with the developer retaining 20%.[5] During the first six months of operation, Locals raised $1 million in funding.[6]

The application is a meeting platform that allows a host to arrange an activity and others can join. Examples are specialized events such as playing chess,[7] that likeminded people can enjoy together and would have otherwise done alone or not at all.[8] This includes charitable events, such as tournaments,[9] and the opportunity to meet celebrities.<ref>{{cite web |title=Natalia Vodianova created an Application for Meeting the Stars
