The Locatelli Tower (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.) is a historic building located in Milan, Italy.
History
The building was built between 1936 and 1939, based on a design by architect Mario Bacciocchi.[1][2] The tower, with its monumental appearance, was originally intended to be accompanied by a twin building on the opposite side of the street, which however was never built.[2] In place of it, instead, the Breda Tower was later constructed. The two twin towers were meant to serve as a monumental gateway to the avenue leading to Milano Centrale railway station.[2]
Description
The tower, located at the corner of Piazza della Repubblica and Via Vittor Pisani, reaches a height of 67 meters across 17 floors.[2] The base, clad in light-colored marble and occupying the first three floors, features a monumental double-height portico on the façade facing Via Pisani. The upper floors above the base are distinguished by terracotta cornices placed every two floors. A large terrace occupies the top of the tower. The building is primarily residential. The side facing Via Pisani is adorned with two rationalist-style bas-reliefs depicting various trades.[2]
