The Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) is an Indian Tamil-language shared universe of action thriller films created by Lokesh Kanagaraj.[1][2][3][4][5] The first feature of the universe Kaithi was released in 2019 and the second installment Vikram was released on 3 June 2022.[6][7][8] It is one of the highest grossing Tamil film franchises.[9]

Development[edit]

Lokesh Kanagaraj has stated that he wanted to do a shared universe of films since finishing his first feature film Maanagaram and expand its world and has said these kind of project have longevity. Then during production of Kaithi he explored the idea and experimented with it by having many open ended plotlines in Kaithi, which he then incorporated them in Vikram by working together with Raaj Kamal Films International and Dream Warrior Pictures, as they own the properties and established a shared universe and has announced many more projects will be releasing in future set in this universe including Kaithi 2 and Vikram 2 and that they will be officially credited as Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) films.[10][11][12][3]

Kaithi[edit]

The first installment of the LCU, it stars Karthi in the lead role, along with Narain, Arjun Das, Harish Uthaman, George Maryan and Dheena in pivotal roles. The story follows Dilli, an ex-convict, endeavors to meet his daughter for the first time after leaving prison. However, his attempts are interrupted due to a drug raid planned by Inspector Bejoy.

Vikram[edit]

The second installment in the LCU, it stars Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil with Kalidas Jayaram, Narain and Chemban Vinod Jose in supporting roles and Suriya in a cameo role. The story follows a black ops squad led by Amar, who is assigned to track down a group of ruthless vigilantes. When Amar investigates the case, he realizes it is not what it seems to be and following down this path will lead to nothing but war between everyone involved.[4][13]

Kaithi 2[edit]

It Was Earlier Announced By SR Prabhu (Producer Of Kaithi) That a sequel Is On The Cards. Karthi Will Return as 'Dilli' . It is Said To Be Released in late 2023 or Early 2024.[11][14][15]

Vikram 2[edit]

A sequel is announced in the post climax scene of Vikram by introducing Suriya as 'Rolex'.[16]
