London Buses route 452
London Buses route 452 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Vauxhall and Westbourne Park (until October 2020, otherwise Kensal Rise), it is operated by Tower Transit.
History
Route 452 started on 2 December 2006 between Kensal Rise and Wandsworth Road Station via Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill Gate, Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Hall, Knightsbridge, Sloane Square, Chelsea Bridge, Queenstown Road and Wandsworth Road. The route was introduced in connection with the Western extension of the Congestion Charging Zone on 19 February 2007.[1] It was numbered "452" to indicate that much of its route was the same as the 52.
It was initially operated by Travel London from their Battersea (QB) garage using Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents. In March 2007, the Alexander ALX400 bodied Dennis Tridents were replaced by brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s.
There was a debate as to whether the route had yet reached its full potential — particularly due to the choice of its terminating stops, with low rates of usage reported along the final stretches of the route. The southern terminus was at the little-used Wandsworth Road Station, in an area with a relatively low population density.[2]
On 21 May 2009, the route was included in the sale of Travel London to Abellio London.
Although route 452 was introduced in connection with the Western extension of the Congestion Charging Zone on 19 February 2007, TfL maintained the route following the removal of the Western extension at the end of 2010.[3][4]
On 3 December 2011, the route was retained by Abellio London.
On 19 November 2016, the route was extended from Wandsworth Road to Vauxhall via Nine Elms.[5]
On 1 December 2018, the route passed to Tower Transit operating from the Westbourne Park Garage near Kensal Rise using Wright Eclipse Gemini 2 bodied Volvo B9TLs.
In May 2020, existing MCV EvoSeti bodied Volvo B5LHs were introduced alongside the Volvo B9TLs.
In June 2020, Volvo Wright Gemini 3 Hybrids were introduced alongside existing buses.
On 18 July 2020, route 452 was diverted from Kensal Rise to Westbourne Park due to electrical works at Ladbroke Grove/Harrow Road. This will be in place until October 2020.
