London Orbital: A Walk Around the M25 is a non-fiction book by Iain Sinclair, first published in hardcover by Granta Books in 2002, and then in paperback by Penguin Books in 2003.

Content[edit]

The book chronicles Iain Sinclair's psychogeographic walk around the M25 motorway, from Grenwich to Waltham Abbey, over a two-year period leading up to the millenium. On the course of his journey, and accompanied on different stretches by companions including writer Kevin Jackson, photographer Marc Atkins, filmmaker Chris Petit, artist Renchi Bicknell and KLF co-founder Bill Drummond, Sinclair muses on the mental hospitals, landfill sites, industrial wastelands, shopping centres, government institutions, golf courses and gated communities he comes across, and encounters figures such as theatre impresario Ken Campbell and author J.G. Ballard.[1][2]

Reception[edit]

London Orbital: A Walk Around the M25 was shortlisted for the 2003 Orwell Prize.[3]

Other media[edit]

In 2002, Iain Sinclair and Chris Petit co-wrote and co-directed an accompanying 77-minute documentary film, also called London Orbital, which was produced by Illuminations Films for FilmFour.[4][5]
