Long Xuyen Quadrangle
The Long Xuyen Quadrangle is a quadrilateral area located in the two provinces of Kien Giang and An Giang in Southwest Vietnam. The four corners roughly correspond to the four cities of Chau Doc, Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, and Ha Tien. It is bordered by the Vietnam-Cambodia border, the Gulf of Thailand, the Cai San canal, and the Bassac River (Hau River).
The Long Xuyen quadrilateral has an area of about 489,000 hectares. It has depressed terrain with absolute altitude from 0.4 to 2 meters.
During the flood season (from July to February), this area is often flooded with water depths from 0.5 to 2.5 meters. In the dry season, it often faces drought and salinization. The Vietnamese Government's flood drainage irrigation program during the 1980s has partly tackled the inundation and salinity of this area.
