Looi Qin En (born December 10, 1993) is a Singaporean who is best known as the co-founder of Glints.[1]
Early life and education
He was born in Singapore, and his parents were Looi Chee Kit, a professor at Nanyang Technological University, and his mother is Tan Lay Geok, a Mandarin teacher at Outram Secondary School. He attended Pei Chun Primary School before going on to Catholic High School, Singapore. Qin En graduated as one of the top scorers from Hwa Chong Institution in 2011, achieving eight distinctions and receiving multiple scholarship offers.[2] Subsequently, he gave up his full-ride government scholarship and left Stanford University after six months to build his company, Glints.[3]
Career
Qin En spent four years as a part-time student researcher at the Institute for Infocomm Research, Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Under the mentorship of Ms See Swee Lan, he published 13 research papers in international conferences and journals on topics ranging from social robotics, education technology, and human-computer interaction.[4]
He is the co-founder of Glints, an online recruitment and career platform headquartered in Singapore.[5] Backed by 500 Startups, East Ventures, and Gobi Partners, Glints raised over US$3 million in venture capital as of September 2016.[6][7][8][9] In 2017, Qin En left Glints, citing “creative friction”.[10]
In March 2017, Qin En was featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list for consumer technology,[11] and in May 2017, Qin En was featured on Entrepreneurs' 27 CEOs Under 27.[12]
Qin En is an Advisor to Singapore Management University's Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and an Associate Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s School of Business. He is also completing his Bachelor of Science in Management Science & Engineering at Stanford University.
He is an investment partner at Dorm Room Fund, which is the largest student-run venture firm in Singapore and backed by First Round Capital. To date, they have made 175+ investments that have raised $350M+ from investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Y Combinator.
Personal life
He lives in Singapore and is engaged to Gladys Kee and planning to marry in 2020.
