Lookaway Golf Club
Lookaway Golf Club is a private golf club which is located in Buckingham Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a township northeast of Philadelphia.
History
Property History
The land that Lookaway Golf Club has a longer history then just that of a golf club. The property dates back to 1713, when William Penn deeded it to Thomas Watson, of Yorksire, England. The clubhouse that Lookaway current uses now was built around 1752, and is supposedly the oldest building used a clubhouse in the United States of America.
The property changed hands over the next 170 years as well as changed uses. It was used over that time as a home and a schoolhouse, among other uses as well. In 1923, Theodore W. Sterling bought the farm, which was an active Dairy Farm known as Paxon Farm. Sterling renamed the farm Lookaway. This farm provided milk to local residents and used a logo on the milk jugs that is still used as the course's logo currently. [1]
