Lorong 1 Geylang Bus Terminal is a bus terminal located in Kallang, at its eastern border with Geylang. Named after the road it is adjacent to, it sits opposite the Kallang MRT Station across Sims Avenue.
The terminal design prioritizes bus parking space, with a small boarding and alighting area and terminal office. This contrasts with more contemporary interchanges which have a greater emphasis on terminal space. Its location outside the central restricted zone was part of an early bus routing strategy to reduce congestion in the central area by siting terminals at the fringes instead of having a large number of bus routes congregating in downtown terminals. With the introduction of the Park and ride scheme, the terminal was designated as a transfer point for car drivers to park and transfer to buses or the MRT.
Bus Contracting Model
Under the new bus contracting model, all the bus services were divided into five route packages: 853 and 980 under Sembawang–Yishun, 961 under Woodlands, 175 under Clementi, 985 under Choa Chu Kang – Bukit Panjang, and the remaining routes under the Serangoon–Eunos Bus Package.
