Los Solitarios

Los Solitarios is a Mexican music group formed in 1963 by Daniel López (composer, founder, musical director, guitarist). The original members were Daniel López and singer Agustín Villegas. At the end of 1962 and the beginning of 1963 in Tijuana, B.C., after several friends joined Daniel López in the Callejón Mediterráneo of the Colonia Alemán in Tijuana, Baja California, they formed a music group. Later, Agustín Villegas (“El Tocos”) joined the group. In the early 1970s, they became crossover artists in the United States, and today their music is heard worldwide.

After forming the group, they began recording and are now known as “The Romantic Symbol of Mexico.” They have continued to sing for lovers for over 56 years and have constantly increased their number of followers, who to this day confirm them to be one of the most important groups in the romantic music genre of Latin America. Over the course of their successful career, some of the most important hits of their musical history include: “Lo Que Te Queda” (1968), “Sufrir” (1969), “Mi Amor Es Para Ti” (1970), “Nada De Tu Amor” (1971), “Nunca Digas” (1972), “No Debes Llorar” (1973-74), “Hoy” (1973-74), “Ay Cosas Inolvidables” (1975), “Tumba De Amor,” “No Dudes De Mi Amor,” and “A Esos Ojos,” to name a few.

Los Solitarios were a phenomenon of the 1970s and 1980s, having two songs on all the top radio charts, holding the #1 and #2 spots simultaneously. Many more similar hits followed.

In their 56 years, they have received numerous accolades, awards, and recognitions from the press, radio, and television, both nationally and internationally, as well as many gold records for their high sales volume. To this day, they have recorded 22 LPs (now CDs), a feat of which they are very proud.

In film, Los Solitarios have appeared in four movies: “Las Musiqueras,” “Presos Sin Culpa,” “Contrabando Del Paso,” and “La Silla Vacia,” in which they were featured not only as actors but also performing their music, which audiences were already familiar with.

Their most recent recognitions include the Tijuana, B.C. City Council honoring them by cementing their handprints in the Santa Cecilia Plaza, as well as a star on the Walk of Fame on Avenida Revolución, for elevating the City of Tijuana with their music.

Daniel López and Agustín Villegas were recognized by the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM) for their enriching contribution to Mexican music in 2008 for their 34 years of work. Daniel López was honored in 2017 at SACM's Museum of Composers in the North Division Metro Station in Mexico City, by having his photograph cemented in the Metro station. In 2016, Daniel and Agustín were awarded by the U.S. Library of Congress with a historic recognition and honor as one of Mexico’s Musical Legends.

For this Mexican music group, it is an honor to remain in the encyclopedia of Mexican music and to be included in the all-time hall of fame as they are the composers of all the group's songs. Their most recent recordings include “Amor Bonito,” “Eres,” “Sin Tentarte El Corazón,” “No Vuelvas,” “Todo Te Lo Di,” “Te Vas Amor,” “No Puede Ser,” and “Por Tantos Años.” This last song, written by Daniel López, was dedicated to their longtime fans as a gift to all those who have fallen in love with their music to this day.

Los Solitarios is currently composed of Daniel López (founder, composer, guitarist, group director, musical director), Agustín Villegas (original singer, composer), David Miranda (keyboards), Luis Villegas (drums), and Miguel Angel Damian (bass).
