The Louisville–Virginia football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Louisville Cardinals football team of the University of Louisville and Virginia Cavaliers football team of the University of Virginia.

Louisville's move to the ACC in 2014, paired with Maryland's exit, meant that cross-divisional scheduling pitted Virginia against Louisville every year until at least 2024.[1] Though this rivalry is new, it has been very competitive in both basketball and football. Overall the record between the two schools in football is 4-3 in Louisville's favor.[2] The two states share a border and a long history, where Kentucky was once part of Virginia. This has led many fans to forecast this emerging rivalry as a meaningful one.[3] However, overall the reaction from fans of either school has been mixed, some supporting the rivalry and others feeling that it has been forced by the conference.[4][5]

The competitive nature of this rivalry is notable as only one game in the series has been decided by more than one touchdown.[6]
