Lovable is a Swedish tech company that provides an AI software engineering platform for building websites and applications from natural language.[1]
Lovable was founded by Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin in December 2023 and launched into general availability in November 2024. In July 2025, TechCrunch and other tech publications reported that Lovable surpassed $100 million in annual recurring revenue eight months after launch and raised $200 million in a Series A led by Accel at a $1.8 billion valuation.[2] According to Forbes, this makes Lovable the fastest software startup to grow from $1 million to $100 million ARR.[3]
History
Open source beginnings
In June 2023, founder Anton Osika released the Github open source project gpt-engineer. Gpt-engineer was one of the first tools that generated complete codebases from text specifications. The project garnered 54,000 stars, making it one of the most starred AI code generation projects (as of July 2025). [4]
GPT Engineer company
Following the positive response to gpt-engineer, Osika and Hedin began developing a commercial version in December 2023. The duo chose their home city Stockholm, Sweden as the location to form the team. [3]
Public launch as Lovable
Following two failed launches, Osika and Hedin re-branded the company to Lovable and launched it into general availability in November 2024. The company experienced rapid growth and by July 2025, Lovable was reported to generate $100 million in Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR). [2]
Products and features
Lovable’s platform combines a conversational builder with code editing and deployment.[2]
- AI code editor with Agent that plans, modifies, and deploys code based on natural language inputs.
- Backend for authentication, database, and storage.
- A live preview with visual editing that reflects in the codebase.
- An in-app code editor for manual edits alongside AI assistance.
Funding
In February 2025, Lovable raised a $15 million pre-series A led by Creandum.[5] In July 2025, the company raised $200 million in a Series A led by Accel at a $1.8 billion valuation.[2]
Reception and use
On platforms like G2 and Trustpilot, Lovable has garnered positive reviews especially from non-developers who say the platform enables them to build software independently for the first time.
More critical reviewers also report challenges when building complex features, citing that AI is not yet ready to reliably build production-level code.[6]
