LU Hang (Chinese 路航; born May 15, 1987) is a Chinese contemporary artist from Beijing, China. He currently works between Paris and Beijing.

Biography

Born in Beijing, LU Hang[1] started painting at the age of 5, perfecting his technique with his parents, both artists who explored art in different forms. He graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute[2] in 2010, then went on to pursue his studies in France, first at ENSA Bourges[3] between 2013 and 2016, and currently at University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne.

Style and Inspiration

LU Hang works mostly in oil painting and collage. He often works using the decomposition, transformation and reconstruction of historical images. His paintings are commonly vivid and vibrant in colours, in contrast with scenes and subjects seemingly cold and harsh.

Experiences

His work has been exhibited in a number of venues, including Blue Roof Museum in Chengdu[4] (2017), Gallery CROUS[5] (2019) and Gallery Paris Horizon[6] (2020) in Paris. He won the Prix Jeunesse of Prix ICART Artistik Rezo in 2021[7]; His articles were published in “People’s Daily Overseas Edition”[8] (2011) and “Humanities, arts and society (HAS)” magazine[9] (2020). And he has participated in various art residency programs like Kooshk Residency in Iran[10] (2017) and Art Residency of Free Academy of Visual Art in Hague.
