Severi was born in Castelfranco Veneto, and started directing documentaries at a very young age, receiving wide distribution in many television channels.

After moving to Milan where he worked in video productions related to advertisement and fashion, he moved again to Los Angeles where he started his career in cinema thanks to a collaboration with Dino De Laurentiis on the film "Vittorio racconta Gassman: Una vita da mattatore.[1]" where he worked as a second unit director, and soon after, with Aurelio and Luigi De Laurentiis's FilmAuro Srl.

In 2013 he co-directed together with Michele Placido the short film "Yorick's Speech[2]", selected by the 70th Venice Film Festival to be part of the special project "Venice 70: Future Reloaded" where 70 of the most influential contemporary directors from all over the world[3] portrayed their point of view about time, celebrating the festival’s 70th anniversary.

In 2015 he directed and co-produced his first feature length documentary titled "Alberto Burri and Piero della Francesca: the two revolutions[4][5]" on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Italian painter and sculptor Alberto Burri. The film premiered in television on the Italian channel SKY Arte on March 12th 2015 and a year later in theaters at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles during 2016 Los Angeles-Italia Film, Fashion and Art Festival.

After working for a few years once again on television projects, in 2016 he directed his first narrative feature film "Calypso", inspired by the fifth book of the Homer's Odyssey, co-produced by Michele Placido as executive producer and announced a few months earlier during the first edition of Ferrara Film Festival[6] where Severi and Placido were special guests[7]
