Luca Stricagnoli (2)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Luca Stricagnoli (born 25 October 1991 in Varese) is an Italian guitarist best known for his original style and innovative playing techniques.[1]

His music videos, where he uses self-invented instruments, modified capos, and up to five guitars in the same piece, have currently achieved over 100 million views on the Internet.

Since 2015 Luca has toured in over 20 countries all over the world. He has recorded 2 solo albums and invented 2 new kinds of guitars: the “Soprano Guitar” and the “Reversed Triple Neck Guitar”.[2] [3]

Biography[edit]

Luca was born in 1991 in Varese, Italy. Since he was a young boy he showed a great natural talent with the guitar. He began playing classical guitar at the age of 10 in his hometown Malnate and continued his studies at the Conservatory of Como.

At the age of 16, facing personal struggles, he decided to give up music believing he would never play again. Luca put away the guitar and put his energy into the sport of judo, taking part in competitions and from time to time injuring his fingers. After 3 years away from the guitar, a friend in his judo team showed him a video of Andy McKee playing his original composition Drifting, uploaded to YouTube by the American label Candyrat Records . The video displayed a style of guitar playing that he had never seen before. This had an incredible impact on Luca, who decided to finally pick up a guitar again and try to learn the piece from YouTube. After showing the results of his practice to his judo team, everyone was impressed and encouraged him to cultivate his incredible gift for the guitar. Shortly after, Luca took the difficult decision to stop practicing judo and left the Sports University to dedicate his time solely to guitar. [4]

Music career[edit]

Luca was inspired by the amazing material being released by Candyrat Records. Learning many pieces by himself he took part in his first talent shows, winning them. Encouraged by his success, he subscribed again to the Conservatory but, despite passing his first-year final guitar examination with the maximum score of 30/30, he decided to abandon the institution once again. This time not to quit music but rather to keep studying by himself and developing his own style.

His first arrangement was a version of the theme of “The Last of the Mohicans”[5] which incorporated 3 guitars and a violin bow. In 2014 Luca sent the piece to various Italian guitar labels and competitions but did not receive any feedback. Frustrated by the refusals, he took the decision to try his luck and send the video directly to the label which inspired him so much, Candyrat Records. Surprisingly, the label showed interest in the video and published it on their YouTube channel.

At the age of 23, Luca was signed to Candyrat Records and in January 2015 produced & released his first album, simply titled “Luca Stricagnoli”. [6]

The first track of the album, an arrangement of “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, achieved over 14 million views in less than one month across social media and Youtube. This guy takes tapping to the next level! is what members of Canadian band Walk off the Earth had to say about it.

Luca started performing his first concerts and undertook his first solo tour in September 2015 in the UK. One of his debut concerts was at the London Acoustic Guitar Show, where he was part of a line up of artists of the caliber of Jon Gomm, Albert Lee, Steve N’ Seagulls, Doyle Dykes, Antoine Dufour, Martin Carthy and Daniel Ho.

His career as a concert player developed incredibly fast, taking him to Russia, China, USA, Canada, Norway, Italy, Germany, France, Poland, Austria, Latvia, Estonia, Luxemburg, Switzerland and even Reunion Island in just 2 years. Luca has performed for many TV and radio stations all over the world,

He has also been a guest artist for Italian musical legends such as "New Trolls - La Storia" and "Davide Van De Sfroos" and for Israeli pop stars such as Eyal Golan and Moshe Perez, with whom he performed at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv in two sold out shows that gathered 24.000 people.

In September 2017, Luca released his second album “What If?” in which he explored even more approaches to guitar playing. The first track of the album, Feel Good Inc. by UK band Gorillaz featured a new guitar invented by Luca and designed by Davide Serracini called “Reversed Triple Neck Guitar” . [7]

This arrangement had 30 million views online in the first month alone, The “Reversed Triple Neck Guitar” caught the attention of major magazines and national newspaper such as “La Repubblica” in Italy, “Spiegel” in Germany and “NME” in the UK, said about him: “When it comes to crazy guitar skills, Luca Stricagnoli is one of the absolute best”. He later released a Cover of can't Stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers [8]

using the “Reversed Triple Neck Guitar” which got shared by the band themselves

In the same album, Luca uses his other invention, the “Soprano Guitar”, that reached popularity through a version of “Sweet Child O’ Mine” It involved playing multiple guitar simultaneously

He played a part in the International Guitar Night tour in North america in early 2017 [9]

The current album tour, featuring guest artist Meg Pfeiffer, is crossing over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, America and Australia after completing a UK and Ireland tour in October [10]
