Lucca Lucian,  (born 2 February 1977 in Vienna), better known by his stage name Lucca, is an Austrian illusionist and motivational speaker. He is the first ever European Champion of Mental Magic (FISM, 2017-2020). He is also the current Vice-World Champion of Mental Magic, having won the second place twice in a row at the World Championships of Magic (FISM, in 2015 in Rimini, Italy, and in 2018 in Busan, South Korea).[1][1]

Early life[edit]

Lucca was born in Vienna, Austria. After finishing the technical school in 1996, he started his first two companies and became a franchisee in Austria.[2] In 2011, he met his future wife and stage partner Anca Floria Lucian. After marrying in June 2012, they started to perform together, using the stage name Anca and Lucca. They live in Vienna and have two sons.[3]

Artistic career[edit]

Lucca first discovered magic at the age of 19, when he passed by a magic shop in Vienna and bought his first trick. In 1999, Lucca joined the Magic Cercle Wien, one of Austria's oldest magic clubs.[2] In 2008, he became a full-time professional magician. Lucca then started to compete in magic championships and received prizes in four different categories of magic in 2008, 2010 and 2012. From 2014 onwards, he focused on Mental Magic.[4]

His most important prizes are:

  • 3 times Austrian Champion of Mental Magic in 2012, 2014 and 2016.
  • special prize for the "Improvement of a magic principle" 2014
  • German Vice-Champion of Mental Magic 2014
  • European Champion of Mental Magic FISM 2017-2020
  • Twice Vice-World Champion of Mental Magic FISM 2015-2018, 2018-2021[5]

The Mind-Reading Revolution[edit]

In 2013, together with his wife Anca Floria Lucian, he started performing the magic act titled “The Mind-Reading Revolution”. This demonstration of mind-reading incorporates improved methods, originated by Lucca and Anca. In 2014, they became Austrian Champions of Mental Magic and received an award for the “Improvement of a magic principle”.[5]

A key feature of the act is the exclusion of pre-arrangements, confederates or any kind of hidden electronic communication device, which they guarantee with a notary signed affidavit that obliges them to a payment of $ 1,000,000 in the event of an infringement.[6]

In 2015, Anca and Lucca won the 2nd place in the category of Mental Magic at the FISM World Championships of Magic, held in Rimini (Italy). In 2017, they became the first ever European Champions of Mental Magic at the FISM European Championships of Magic, held in Blackpool (UK).[5] In 2018 they won again the 2nd place n the category of Mental Magic at the FISM World Championships of Magic, held in Busan (South Korea).[3][4]

Own creations[edit]

Besides the magic act “The Mind-Reading Revolution”, Lucca creates many of his illusions, such as a mental version of scrabble named “Letters”, the illusion named “Numerology”, along with his own versions of the magic square, the card stab and the card warp.[7]

Book and theatre show[edit]

In June 2017, Lucca published his first book “Lucca – The Art of Amazement / Secrets and Revelations of a Magician” in Austria (Goldegg Verlag). The book incorporates the love story between Anca and Lucca.[8] This story is also the background theme of the mental magic theatre show "Anca & Lucca - The Mind-Reading Revolution", first performed in Vienna in November 2017.[9]
