Lucian B.[edit]
Early Life[edit]
Gelu Lucian Balog (born May 24, 1981) is a Romanian singer and songwriter, member of UCMR-ADA (Romanian Musical Performing and Mechanical Rights Society since 2005)[1]. He was born in Tecuci, Galati, grew up in Ivesti, until the age of 5, and moved to Galati Town.
Influence[edit]
Lucian B.[2] has been influenced greatly by artists like Craig David, Backstreet Boys, Laurentiu Duta (3SE), R Kelly, Justin Timberlake, A-Ha, Bogdan Ioan and last but not least, Usher.
Career[edit]
In 2002, he had his first recording in a professional studio (Box Studio) featuring a local hip hop band, Joint. This is when he first met the two music producers he would work with, Gabi Pecheanu and Bogdan Ioan. The song Debut was a local success and it was performed on several occasions at local celebrations and high-school proms. He carried on collaborating with several artists in Galati, like Pretecst, Kheops, Dementorii, Pazzo, Ironic and Ilogic!
Bogdan Ioan pushed to develop his ability towards writing original songs. They worked together, alongside Gabi Pecheanu, and produced songs like Cand fac un pas, Cand pleci, Pleaca and Cred in iubire. In 2004, Bogdan Ioan involved Lucian B. in a new project.... the band Da'Kappo (Sofia Huzum and Lucian Balog). They recorded an album, never to be officially released, at Alin Studio in Craiova, Romania. The band was promising to be a success. They reached prime time at Antena 1 by joining Folclorul Contraataca, a very popular TV show where modern music met traditional Romanian music in a friendly match, sort of speak. Other TV appearances followed on B1 TV, TVR 2 (TV Host Catalin Maruta), and local TV stations in Galati and Craiova. The ascension suffered a sudden drop as the sponsorship failed to be sustained and their announced success went into a mist. A few well-known songs from Da'Kappo: Numai Tu, Spune-mi ce vrei, Ochii tai and Te strig in Noapte.
In 2008, Bogdan Ioan released Bizzy Box, featuring several artists, including Lucian B. The song that features Lucian B., Fallin' in Love was the first major production in English, for Lucian B.
In 2009, Lucian B. moved to England. He traveled back to Romania to record a few cover songs and in 2017 he recorded an original song Climax part 2 (no rights over the instrumental) tribute dedicated to his Idol Usher. This song is a combination of Usher song titles, originally put together to create a ''story''.
2018: Running in Circles is released. The song was recorded at Box Records in Galati, Romania and produced by Bogdan Ioan. This is Lucian B.'s first single available to be purchased from any online music platforms existent[3]
25th December 2020: Lucian B. releases Personal. The album is a collection of songs never released officially. Personal Album was released under Box Records and all songs were recorded at Box Studio by Bogdan Ioan and Gabi Pecheanu. The album contains songs from Bogdan Ioan’s Bizzy Box, features with Mazilu and Bogdan Ioan and songs from the unreleased Da’Kappo album, featuring Sofia Huzum.
30th April 2021: Expressions feat Amber Seabrook is released. Written by Lucian B. and containing an extract of Amber Seabrook’s campaign interview, Expressions is yet another collaboration with Bogdan Ioan. A tribute song to people living with Dementia, part of Expression Not Aggression campaign. The campaign Expression Not Aggression aims at removing the stigma that people living with Dementia are aggressive... when they are only trying to EXPRESS themselves. Amber Seabrook and the team at Woodside Nursing Home in Slip End, Luton are the promoters of this campaign and their drive is to change this inappropriate terminology.terminology.
6th June 2021 Pa Pa is released, featuring TANU. Produced by Bogdan Ioan at Box Records. The music and lyrics are jointly written by Lucian B. and TANU, and portrays the player in a relationship, being caught red handed, being told to vanish from one’s life. Pa pa is a form of salute for someone about to leave and it remains a polite way to say “get out of my no life” even though throughout the song, swear words are used in English language.
