Lucid9 is an mystery visual novel developed by Fallen Snow Studios. It was released on April 14, 2016. The story follows a high-school boy living an average life with his friends, until a series of disappearances of students in his school begin occurring, and he is drawn in to solve the mystery of them.
Lucid9 consists of two parts: Inciting Incident, the mostly-linear first half of the story, and a second, yet-to-be-named, unreleased second half, with a branching story-line.[1]

Inciting Incident[edit]
Yama Ishimoto, a high-school boy in the fictional metropolis of Isamu, Japan. Yama lives a lazy, retracted life, spending most of his time focused on spending time with his friends rather than school work or his future. He meets a strange woman on the streets claiming to be a detective who hires him to be her assistant. She sends Yama on a "treasure hunt" of riddles to test his abilities.
The next day, Yama hears about the student disappearances. As Yama lives his school life trying to ignore them, they quickly become more and more numerous. During this, Yama's traumatic past (his sister dying tragically in a bus crash ten years prior) is slowly revealed to both the player and Yama's friends. Yama's memory lapses, caused by his PTSD, lead him to believe that he his the murder that he has been searching for.
Shortly thereafter, his childhood friend, Rui, disappears. After Yama discovers the true identity of the murderer, who tells him that Rui is being held captive, he decides to go after him, and is forced to beat two innocent students with metal pipes in a "game" made by the murderer. Before anyone dies, the police arrive, and Yama and Rui escape to the rooftop of the school, where Yama stabs the murderer and falls down into the pool below.
Waking up in the hospital, Yama only calls out for Rui. After regaining his composure, slowly, his friends are allowed to visit him. Months after the incident, Yama returns to his daily life, until his parents force him to move back home. Later that day, Yama goes to visit Rui, and finds her and her parents brutally murdered in their own house.
Reception[edit]
Upon its release, Lucid9: Inciting Incident was met with positive reviews, being praised for its mystery elements, visual presentation, and dark themes,[2][3] although the game's "slice-of-life" sections have been criticized.[4]
