From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

LuckyVitamin is an online global retailer of vitamins, nutritional supplements, and health products and is headquartered in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, in the United States.

Background Information[edit]

Founded in 2005, the LuckyVitamin website lists 38,000[1] to 40,000[2] products as of 2019. Categories featured in the product range include nutritional supplements, homeopathic formulas, herbs, beauty and personal care, keto and paleo diet items, and natural and organic foods.

LuckyVitamin's product range includes both brands offering nutritional supplements and natural and organic products, and items made by small producers. The company also sells products under various private labels. The company staff includes a team tasked with finding new partner companies, including small independent enterprises, through various types of research, including attending trade shows to locate new potential suppliers.[3]

The company employs approximately 250 people and currently sells products in more than 50 countries globally.[2]

History[edit]

LuckyVitamin's history began in 1956 when Ed Wolf opened a family-owned pharmacy in Eagleville, Pennsylvania selling vitamins, medicines, and other health-related products.[4] Ed Wolf's son, Gary Wolf, worked at the pharmacy until he inherited the company and property in 1977. In the early 1990s, alongside his wife Vicki Wolf, Gary sold the business, but retained the property.[5]

In 1996, Vicki Wolf was diagnosed with breast cancer leading to the family's renewed interest in health foods and nutritional supplements.[6][7][8] During this time, the family chose to re-open their property in Eagleville, Pennsylvania as a "mom-and-pop" brick-and-mortar health food store.[6]

Sam Wolf, son of Gary and Vicki Wolf and founder of LuckyVitamin, worked at the family health food store stocking shelves and assisting customers in his youth until he then attended American University in Washington, D.C., graduating in 2004 with a business degree. In 2005, he launched LuckyVitamin.com as a spin-off of the family business, to sell health products online nationwide.[6]

In 2011, with LuckyVitamin's annual revenues standing at $40 million, Sam Wolf sold the company to GNC Holdings, Inc., another health products business.[9]

While under GNC, Sam Wolf continued to work as part of LuckyVitamin's management as "chief wellness spreader"[2] and founder until 2017 when TSG Consumer Partners, a private equity firm, partnered with the Wolf family to acquire the company back, making it once again an independent business.[9]

International Expansion[edit]

Originally, LuckyVitamin only sold its products in the United States. The company began offering international shopping to customers in Australia, Canada, China, and the United Kingdom in late October, 2015.[10][11] Less than 5 years later, the company now offers shipment to more than 50 countries worldwide.[1]

Philanthropic Activities[edit]

LuckyVitamin uses 1% of the profits from its own branded products to fund the LuckyKids foundation. Through LuckyKids, the company works in partnership with local community groups to provide children with educational materials on healthy activities such as exercise, and nutrition as well as to generate funds for children's projects, such as the playground the foundation built for Silver Springs Martin Luther School in 2016.[1][12][13][14]

Awards[edit]

In 2016, LuckyVitamin was selected as the Bizrate Insights Circle of Excellence award winner for being in the top 5.8% of customer satisfaction scores for that year.[15]

An independent panel of judges at Ernst & Young chose Sam Wolf as a 2018 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award winner in the Greater Philadelphia area. This program "recognizes entrepreneurs who are excelling in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities."[16] The nomination also made Wolf eligible for consideration as a candidate for national 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year.[16][17]

In January 2019, according to Retail Merchandiser magazine, LuckyVitamin was one of the top 5 e-commerce companies selling health and nutrition products.[2] Also in 2019, the Philadelphia Business Journal chose LuckyVitamin as one of its Healthiest Employers of 2019 for its Wellness@Work program. This program encourages employees to live an active lifestyle while at work.[18][19][20]
