Lucky Akter (born on October 3, 1990) is a young politician from Bangladesh who gained significant attention during the Shahbag movement in 2013 for her powerful voice and slogans. Currently a member of the central committee of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, she served as the third woman president of Bangladesh Students Union in 2015 and was the first-ever woman general secretary in the organization's history in 2013. Her involvement in student movements began in 2009 during the Hall Movement at Jagannath University.
Early life and education
Lucky Akter was born on October 3, 1990, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She completed her primary education at Bailjury Govt Primary School and secondary education at K.B. Little School. She passed her SSC examination from Maleka Banu Adarsha Biddya Niketan in 2005 and her HSC from Milestone College in 2007. Lucky pursued her BA and MA in English Language and Literature from Jagannath University in Dhaka.
Political life
Lucky Akter joined the Bangladesh Students Union (BSU) in 2012. She was elected the general secretary in 2013 and the president in 2015. She has been active in various student movements, including those against tuition fee hikes, sexual harassment, and for the war crime trials. Lucky is currently a central committee member[6] of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and an executive member[7] of Bangladesh Krishak Samity (BKS).
Shahbag Movement
Lucky played a pivotal role [8] in the Shahbag Movement of 2013 with her powerful slogans. Her slogan "Ka te kader Molla, tui rajakar, tui rajakar" became widely popular. She faced cyberbullying and death threats but continued her activism against war criminals and religious extremism.
Musical Journey
Besides politics, Lucky is passionate about music. She has recorded songs like the Bengali version of "Bella Ciao" titled "Biplober Phool" [9] and "Gacheder Kanna." She has an array of unreleased songs and performs under the YouTube channel "Gaaner Lucky."
Personal life
Lucky Akter is married to Zahidul Islam Sazib, an international affairs secretary of the Bangladesh Youth Union. They have a daughter named Rojava Surjo. Lucky has been working in the development sector since 2017 and is also a freelance researcher and translator.
