Lugufu refugee camp is one of the smallest and unknown refugee camps in Tanzania, with around 70,000 refugees. It is located in the western province of Kigoma, Tanzania,[1]
The International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) has cautioned that the sharp ascent in DRC displaced people crossing Lake Tanganyika has extended the Red Cross exile camp at Lugufu in western Tanzania past its arranged limit.[2] In a news release issued on Thursday, IFRC said the camp was presently lodging 50,000 displaced people - 5,000 to 10,000 more than were at any point foreseen - and communicated worry that more evacuees were en route. "The world has pretty much overlooked them, yet an ever increasing number of displaced people are coming here," said Georg Nothelle, leader of the IFRC in Tanzania. "There is a dire requirement for financing." He cautioned that the most serious issue might be water, as the camp lies in a remote zone and requires its very own protected water supply.[3] [4]
