Luis Do Santos
Luis Do Santos Ardohain, born in 1967 in Calpica (today Mones Quintela in Uruguay) is an Uruguayan writer.
Biography

Luis Do Santos, Uruguayan writer, was born in 1967 in Calpica (today Mones Quintela) a village in the middle of the sugar cane fields on the banks of the Uruguay River, and close to the town of Bella Union, in the department of Artigas, in the far northwest of the country. After a rural childhood close to nature, his adolescence was spent during the so-called “civic-military” dictatorship in a boarding school far from his home, where he formed solid friendships for life. After high school and the dictatorship, there followed the years of university studies in Montevideo, a sudden freedom and the ambition to become a teacher, soon abandoned. Married and a father, he has lived for many years in Salto, another city on the Uruguay River, where he works in a cooperative supermarket, alongside his literary activity.
Bibliographic career

In 2008, Luis Do Santos first published in Salto a collection of short stories, Tras la niebla and a novel, La última frontera, and contributed to various anthologies. He is also the author of songs and texts for the "murgas", these satirical groups typical of the Uruguayan carnival. In 2014, still unpublished, his novel El zambullidor was noticed by winning a mention during the literary contest "Juan Carlos Onetti".[1]
When it was published by Fin de Siglo editions in 2017[2], it was a great success in Uruguay, and in France Yovana editions published it in 2020 under the title L'Enfant du Fleuve[3][4]. A Brazilian translation was subsequently published under the title O Mergulhador[5][6] by Diadorim editions[7][8], then in 2021 Tiempo de Papel editions offered the book to the Spanish public.
After the notable success of El Zambullidor in Uruguay (4 editions in less than 4 years), Fin de Siglo editions published a new version of his novel La última frontera in 2021. Luis Do Santos also participated with the same publisher in the collective anthology Cuentos de la Peste in 2020.
