Luis Felipe Gomez Alfaro is an immigration lawyer based in New York City. He is the immigration contributor of NY1 Noticias' in the "El abogado a tu lado" news segment.[1] He is also the co-host, together with Carlos Rajo, of NY1's first immigration podcast "Inmigracion con NY1 Noticias".[2][3] He is also an advocate for the rights of immigrants in the United States.

Biography[edit]

Luis Gomez Alfaro is a native of Guadalajara, Mexico. He attended the law school of ITESO University and the University of Illinois College of Law. He is a lawyer in Mexico and In the United States.[4]

Throughout 2019 and early 2020, he was part of a group of immigrant activists, who pushed for universal access to Drivers' Licenses in New York.[5] He held an informative session with State Senator Julia Salazar,[6] a public forum in Queens,[7] and multiple television and social media presentations for Spanish-speaking Immigrants.[8][9][10]

In March 2020, He represented the mother of an autistic child facing imminent removal under the Trump Administration[11]. Luis claimed she was targeted in Staten Island after driving with a learner's permit under the new universal access to Drivers' Licenses in New York.[12] After NY1 Noticias covered the mother's plight U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released her to a group of activists and a notice to appear was never filed with the Immigration Court.[13]

In June 2020, he represented the parents of slain U.S. soldier Vanessa Guillén, in securing immigration paroles based on their daughter's military service. Their immigration status was secured in record time through the assistance of Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia.[14] This immigration status allowed the family to meet with then President Donald Trump at the White House.[15]

In May 2022, Luis undertook the immigration representation of immigrants affected by the 2022 New York City Subway attack.[16] He represented one of the heroes who helped NYPD locate and capture alleged shooter Frank Robert James,[17] [18] and a direct victim that filmed the immediate aftermath of the shooting inside the subway car and first provided footage to the investigators.[19] [20]
