Luiz Cesar Pimentel (São Paulo, January 22, 1971) is a Brazilian journalist, writer and currently head of communication strategy and digital transformation of the São Paulo City Council. He is the author of seven books - two of them have entered the list of the 20 bestsellers in Brazil by Veja Magazine. He was an international correspondent in Asia, made press coverage in more than 30 countries and is also a collaborator of some of the main vehicles, newspapers and magazines in Brazil such as Rolling Stone, Elle and Playboy.

Career[edit]

He graduated in Journalism at FIAM (Faculdades Integradas Alcântara Machado), in São Paulo, in 1993, and a specialization in international journalism by PUC in 2001.He started his career as a reporter for the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, between 1996 and 1999. He worked as an international correspondent in Asia in 1999, when he wrote for several Brazilian publications, including the magazines Terra, Viagem Turismo, Veja and Superinteressante.

He was editor of Trip magazine, manager of the UOL portal, Grupo Folha, and director of the Virgula portal.

He was the first Myspace employee and director in Brazil, when this was the largest social network in the world. Luiz also worked at its operations center in Los Angeles, in 2008.

Expert in online media, Cross Media and Data Visualization, he was chosen by TPM magazine to be at the cover of a series of special editions which honored relevant Brazilian professionals in the area.

Publishing and awards[edit]

His memoirs, stories and reports as an international correspondent in 1999 were compiled in the book: "Sem Pauta – Reportagens, Histórias e Fotos de um Jornalista pelo Mundo" (Ed. Seoman, 2005). His second book is a compilation of music hits in Brazil "Você Tem que Ouvir Isso!" (Ed. Pensamento, 2011). His repertoire of musical memories counts with the participation of Brazilian relevant bands as Skank, Pitty, NX Zero, Pato Fu, Dead Fish, Ira!, Sepultura, César Menotti e Fabiano, Cachorro Grande and Nando Reis. Among his collaborators are Sérgio Marone, and Rodrigo Faro. With the rock singer Pitty, he wrote "Pitty. Cronografia: Uma Trajetória em Fotos[1]" (Edições Ideal, 2012).

Two of his recent books are biographies. The first one is about the singer and current host of TV Gazeta, Ronnie Von – "Ronnie Von, o Príncipe que Poderia ser Rei" (ed.Planeta, 2014).[2] In 2016 he wrote with the music producer and TV host Rick Bonadio a book about his trajectory in music, "Rick Bonadio, 30 Anos de Musica" (Ed. Pensamento, 2016). Both books were the country's 20 best selling publications in the year of its releasing, according to Veja magazine.

In 2018, he wrote the story of Jesus as an investigative report. The book is called "Jesus, uma Reportagem" and came out by the publisher Pensamento/Seoman.

Web Portal R7[edit]

Luiz Cesar participated in the creation of the R7 news website since the beginning of its operation in 2009. He was editor-in-chief, executive editor and Content Director. The vehicle was one of the leaders in audience among the country's content portals, with around 75 million visitors per month, according to ComScore.

R7 is one of the most relevant websites on the Brazilian internet,[3] and it belongs to the Record TV media group, present not only in Brazil, but aired to Europe, United States and Africa by Record Internacional and affiliates.
