Luke J. Wilson, holding a BA (Hons), is a British author also recognised by his pen name, L. J. Wilson, primarily acknowledged for his contributions to theological literature. He was born on January 9, 1985, in Staffordshire, England. Wilson is notable for his work, "40 Days with the Fathers: A Journey Through Church History,"[1] which saw its initial publication in 2017 and has since undergone several subsequent editions, including the release of its third edition in 2022, which featured a foreword by Paul Pavao,[2] the author of "Decoding Nicea."[3] Wilson's book has garnered positive reception, including a number of five-star reviews.[4][5] Additionally, he has authored a complementary work, "40 Days with the Fathers: Companion Texts."[6]
Life and career
Wilson has also written various short stories and achieved recognition through his involvement in both local and online writing competitions. His journey as a writer began with the publication of "The Three"[7] in 2014, which he later reissued in 2022. His literary works have received nominations for various awards, reflecting his contribution to the field of literature.
Interviews and Press
In April 2022, Ruth Fanshaw, the host of the "This Now" Podcast, approached Wilson for an interview on the occasion of the third edition of his book, "40 Days with the Fathers."[8] Additionally, on July 6, 2022, Luke Wilson participated in an interview for the podcast hosted by Ruah Space, where he provided insights into his work.[9] In the same month, he engaged in an interview with Canadian-born author T.E. Price, who is currently based in Brisbane, Australia.[10]
Other Works
In addition to his literary works and podcast contributions, Luke Wilson has authored theological articles, some of which have been featured in the Academia Letters Journal.[11] In these articles, he delves into the origins and significance of the term "catholic" in early Christianity.
Wilson also publishes articles on his theological blog, The Sacred Faith,[12] and created a website dedicated to the study of Patristics where he provides English translations of texts from the Early Church Fathers and resources to facilitate individuals in their exploration of Church History. These resources include maps, timelines, and, more recently, a first-of-its-kind AI-powered chatbot designed for the study of source texts from the Apostolic Fathers.[13][14]
University and Studies
Wilson attained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Wales, majoring in Biblical Studies and Theology. Currently, he is enrolled in a course at Yale University, focused on the history of Western Christianity. Since the publication of his first non-fiction book in 2017, Luke Wilson has dedicated the past six years to the comprehensive study of the works of the Early Church Fathers, making contributions to the field of theological scholarship.
Religious Beliefs and Personal Life
Luke J. Wilson identifies as a Christian, specifically adhering to the Church of England Anglican tradition. His religious journey began in his formative years when he attended a small Church of England church in the village of his upbringing in the Midlands. In 2000, his family relocated to South Devon, where they continued attending a Church of England congregation for a period. Subsequently, in the early 2000s, they transitioned to an Assemblies of God church.
It was during a Christian youth festival in 2003 that Luke Wilson experienced a transformative spiritual moment, leading to his 'born again' experience and a deepened passion for his faith. This pivotal moment in his life inspired his subsequent interest in the study of theology.
In pursuit of his theological calling, he enrolled at Mattersey Hall Bible College in South Yorkshire. During this period, Wilson actively engaged with the local Evangelical and Baptist churches and took on the role of a youth leader, contributing to the spiritual development of the community.
He is also contemplating ordination within the Church of England.
Marriage and Missionary Work
Luke Wilson has a history of involvement in short-term missions to South Africa over the last 15 years, working with orphanages and medical staff in Mpumalanga.
During one of his mission trips to South Africa, he met Lucinda, who would later become his wife. After a two-year-long international courtship, they became engaged in 2009 and subsequently married in 2011 in South Africa. However, due to visa complications, the couple soon relocated to the United Kingdom where they still reside now.
Entrepreneurship
Residing in Devon, England, Luke, in collaboration with his father, Kevin Wilson,[15] established WebBoss Ltd,[16] a web development software company, in the year 2011. The company earned recognition as the "Best Practice Representative 2018" in the field of technology by The Parliamentary Review.[17] Additionally, WebBoss formed partnerships with prominent financial institutions like Barclaycard and Worldpay, as well as the national stationery retailer, Ryman Stationers.[18][19]
WebBoss garnered further attention as a case study for FeedBear[20] and was featured as a product on AppSumo in 2022. Luke and his business received coverage in various online news outlets and local newspapers.[21][22][23]
In parallel to his professional endeavours, Luke is currently involved in the design of a tabletop dungeon crawler board game titled "No Going Back," with the release date yet to be announced.[24]
