Luke Shen-Tien Chi (born September 6, 1978, in Mountain View, California) is the first American-born Chinese spokenologist and writer. He is credited with founding Spokenology, turning the study of spoken language as an academic discipline. Spokenology was established in Huanggu District, Shenyang, Liaoning, China. Chi is the first person to teach Spokenology as a formal subject, focusing learners to speak properly. Chi first came to China in 2008 and taught Engish Spokenology in Liaoning Province. He currently teaches at Shenyang Normal University, where he also has served as the founding president of Spokenology Association [3] since 2015. He is the author of the world’s first Spokenology textbook, published in October 2016 by Tsinghua University Press.[1][2] On December 22, 2020, Chi resumed songwriting. [4]
Ancestor and Personal Life
Chi is the fourth generation descendant of Sheng Xuanhuai (1844-1916), founder of Peiyang University, China's first modern higher education institution. He resides in Liaoning Province. [5]
Spokenology Association
In 2015 Chi established the Spokenology Association of Shenyang Normal University as the first affiliation of Spokenology academics. [6][7]
