Luzon Development Bank (abbreviated as LDB) is a thrift bank based in the Philippines. It operates 39 branches across the Luzon island with geographic concentration in the CALABARZON and Metro Manila areas. Its Head Office is located along National Highway, Paciano Rizal, Calamba City, Laguna, Philippines. It is headed by its President, Gerardo T. Auson, Jr.[1][2]

Having an asset base of 5.6 billion pesos as of June 2019[3], it ranks as the 20th among thrift banks in the Philippines.[4]

History[edit]

Leveraging on the commercial and industrial potential of the 1960s Laguna province, Felix Limcaoco Sr. and his sons Rene and Felix Jr., Dolores Santos, Dr. Leon Castillo, Amparo Hocson, and Don Eduardo Barreto established Laguna Development Bank (LDB) with ten employees in its first branch in Calamba City[5][6][7]

It was renamed in 1975 as Luzon Development Bank as its continued expansion went beyond the province of Laguna.[6][7]

LDB was among the four institutions that won a bidding for the sale of 25 branches of Prime Savings Bank in October 2000.[8]

It engaged Pioneer Insurance in 2010 to provide residential, commercial and car insurance for LDB clients.[9] In May 2016, LDB signed up with PLDT's fintech arm Voyager Innovations to utilize the latter's Lendr loan origination platform.[10]

In August 2017, LDB's executives were requested to appear in a Senate hearing as the Philippine government investigated the wealth of then COMELEC Chairman Andres Bautista.[11][12][13][14]
