LyraVR is a room scale virtual reality 3D spatial music sequencer game. LyraVR has been released for Microsoft Windows on March 22, 2017.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

LyraVR allow users to create and combine various musical nodes to form melodies or loops as visual representations of spatial music in a virtual sandbox. The application is designed for motion interfaces in virtual reality using HTC Vive or Oculus Rift controllers to navigate within the virtual space, with drumming mallets extending from the controller tips to interact with objects and create music. Several virtual instruments, synth libraries, audio fx filters, and tools provide many different options for producing creative work.[2]

Development[edit]

LyraVR was originally created using Leap Motion and Oculus Rift DK2 with the Unity game engine as a submission to Leap Motion's 2015 Global Game Jam and earned first place winner.[3][4][5] Development further continued under HTC's ViveX accelerator program among it's batch 1 companies in Q4 2016, and LyraVR began selling under Early Access for $9.99 USD on Steam beginning Mar 22, 2017.[6][7][8] It was later updated to Beta as well as released to the Oculus Store with an adjusted price of $14.99 USD on December 10, 2017.[9] Much of the team's work has centered on how VR is unique when compared to flat audio production, and has included developing design and industry best practices for VR.

Reception[edit]

LyraVR has received favorable reviews on both the Steam and Oculus Store since launch. In 2016 as part of his travel log series in partnership with KLM airlines, DJ Hardwell commented, "... it's so different than sitting behind your computer and, you know, clicking on instruments. You're actually touching instruments, you can create with your own hands.. it feels completely different and amazing..."[10]
