Möbius is an open-source operating system that runs on IA-32-compatible processors.
Description
The developer stated that at the time (2003) there were only either good closed-source operating systems (like Microsoft Windows) or basic open-source ones (or even only 'demo') or again OSs that were really hard to learn.[1] Its main goals are:
- To be extensible enough so that it is easy to modify it for new devices and technologies
- To keep the kernel as small and modular as possible
- To support existing applications where possible
- To remain easy enough to use that users can install and configure a Möbius system without having to learn it.
It supports SMP, Multithreading, and many other features. The file format for the libraries is the same one that on Microsoft Windows (Portable Executable).
At the present time (2023) it seems to have been abandoned since 2004, maybe due to the concurrent further development of Linux family (just in 2004 Ubuntu would be finally released for the first time).
