M.Y.R.A. Entertainment (M.Y.R.A.) is an independent motion picture and television production company in New York and London. The company’s mission is advancing the understanding among countries and cultures with entertaining stories free of graphic and verbal violence.[1] M.Y.R.A. stands for “movement,” “youth,” “resources” and “art.”

Established in 2007, the company is headed by founder and producer Margarethe Baillou and chief operating officer Nicola Walter. The company’s motto is, “The camera knows no flag.”

M.Y.R.A. produces feature films, short films, documentaries, video art and television series. In 2017, M.Y.R.A. executive produced Call Me By Your Name, which won the 2018 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay by James Ivory.[2]

Films[edit]

In 2007, M.Y.R.A. associate produced the documentary short, Body & Soul: Diana & Kathy, directed by Academy Award nominee Alice Elliott. The film was produced by Welcome Change Productions and was programmed into 42 film festivals in 13 countries, winning 11 awards.

On October 10, 2009, the annual World Day Against the Death Penalty,[3] M.Y.R.A. premiered its video art installation, “One After,” directed by Baillou at Openhouse Gallery in New York.[4] The project was produced in association with Triple8Park Pictures.

In 2013, M.Y.R.A. produced the animated short film, “Telling a You,” written and directed by Baillou, which premiered at SONscreen Film Festival in Simi Valley, California and has been programmed into 33 film festivals in five counties, winning 32 awards, including an Audience Choice and three Best Animation awards.

In 2014, M.Y.R.A. produced, in association with Triple8Park Pictures, the short film “Le Pardon,” written and directed by Baillou, which premiered at Hill Country Film Festival in Fredericksburg, Texas on May 1, 2014. It has been programmed into 24 festivals in four countries and has won eight awards, including ones for Best Costume Design and Best Director.

M.Y.R.A.’s first feature film, Drawing Home, began development in 2007. Written by Donna Logan and Markus Rupprecht and directed by Rupprecht, it was shot in and around Banff National Park in Alberta, as well as in Montreal, Quebec in Canada. Its world premiere took place on November 2, 2016 at the 2016 Banff Mount Film and Book Festival in Canada and its U.S. premiere at the St. Louis International Film Festival on November 10, 2016. It had a limited U.S. theatrical release on December 2, 2017.[5]

In 2016, M.Y.R.A. came on board to executive produce Call Me By Your Name, directed by Academy Award nominee, Luca Guadagnino.[6] The picture was a collaboration of La Cinefacture, RT Features, Freseny, M.Y.R.A. Entertainment and Water’s End Productions. The film earned 84 awards, including an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and 197 nominations. It had a limited U.K. and U.S. theatrical release in the fall of 2017, followed by a wide U.S. and worldwide theatrical release in early 2018 by Sony Pictures Classics.

In 2017, M.Y.R.A. executive produced the film, Change in the Air, directed by Dianne Dreyer. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Pasadena International Film Festival on March 7, 2018 and its international premiere at the Bermuda International Film Festival on March 25, 2018. It was produced by Red Square Pictures in association with M.Y.R.A. Entertainment. The film’s worldwide rights were sold to Screen Media.[7]
