M2 is a New Zealand men's fashion lifestyle magazine that is available in both printed and in digital format. Launched in 2005, the magazine focuses on fashion, luxury cars, gadgets, business, culture, and entertainment. It is published by M2 Magazine Ltd and has expanded into live events, including the M2 AI Summit and, in partnership with its sister publication, the M2Woman Journey to Excellence leadership summit. The magazine celebrated its 200th issue in 2024.

History

M2 was founded in late 2004 following the noting of an absence of a dedicated men's lifestyle publication in New Zealand. The magazine's name, M2, originated as a contraction of 'Men's Monthly', was chosen for being short and without pre-existing meaning.[1].

The first issue, of only 60 pages, went on sale on 23 May 2005, featuring a retro photograph of Clint Eastwood on the cover.

The second issue saw the page number expanded to over 100 pages and, by the time of the fourth issue in August 2005, M2 had set a new revenue record for the publication. Six months after launch, the October 2005 ('Rocktober') issue won a Best Magazine Cover award[2].

The brand has since expanded into live events, including the M2 AI Summit, which by 2027 was scheduled to run two identical one-day events in response to demand.

AI Summit

A recent innovation has been the M2 Magazine Business AI Summit. This one-day program of speakers, case studies, interactive exhibits, and networking opportunities is aimed at business decision-makers across a range of industries. These include; services, construction, advisory, consulting, manufacturing, healthcare, finance, technology, real estate, education, automotive, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, retail, government, insurance, and legal.

According to organisers, the summit draws approximately 750 attendees per day[3], the majority of whom are business decision makers. Organisers also report that 61% of attendees return each year[4]. In response to demand, the 2027 edition will expand capacity by running two identical one-day events on separate days, allowing attendees the option to attend either one or both days[5]

Across five events, between M2 and sister publication M2Woman, the total audience is reported to be 1,900 attendees. These events comprise two M2 AI Summits (Auckland: 750 attendees, Christchurch: 350 attendees) and two M2woman Leadership Summits (Auckland: 450 attendees, Christchurch: 350 attendees)[6]
