The MATE ROV Competition is an international robotics competition that challenges students to design and build ROVs and to tackle missions based on real-world scenarios. Besides designing and engineering an ROV, students are required to treat their teams like a company – they must prepare technical reports, marketing materials, and engineering presentations.[1] Competitors have gone on to study at prestigious institutions including Yale, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, and Princeton.[2] There are currently more than 45 regional events.[3]
History
The MATE ROV competition was born in 1997 out of a need to develop the future workforce of the Blue Economy.
