History[edit]

MDTA Mahbatul Ulum was established on 17 July 1963 by Zakaria bin Muhammad Amin to provide Islamic religious education from basic level up to university level.[1] At the beginning of its construction, this school only had seven classes that did not have walls and still had dirt floors.[1] In 1977, Bengkalis Regent Himron Saheman donated Rp. 350,000 for paving the school floor.[2] In 1986, Riau Government through governor Imam Munandar donated Rp. 9,600,000 to renovate the classroom walls and the ceilings of three classes.[2] During Abri Masuk Desa (AMD) program by President Suharto in 1989, the school received wall rehabilitation for four classes.[2] From 1990 until 1991, through Pendapatan Asli Daerah (PAD) program by Bengkalis government, the school was built with four additional classrooms and a prayer room.[3] In 1991, the development contribution system began to be implemented at the school and the school received a donation from 263 parents of students and 40 other donors, to pay the salary for nine teachers. Each contributed more than Rp.1000, totalling more than Rp. 500.000.[3]
