The Middle East Directions Programme (MEDirections) is a research programme hosted by the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence (Italy), and promotes multidisciplinary research on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).[1]

The Programme focuses on "socio-political, security and religious transformations", "conflict dynamics", and the "new political economy of the region".[2][3][4][5] All researches developed in the framework of the Programme are publicly available on the Cadmus Platform and mostly licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution.

The programme's research team is a multidisciplinary pool of researchers with diversified backgrounds, and a vast network of contacts in the countries covered, all with extensive fieldwork experience. The Scientific Advisor of the Programme is Prof. Olivier Roy.[6][7]

History

The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) at the European University Institute (EUI) established the Middle East Directions Programme (MEDirections) in 2016.

MEDirections is a continuation of the Mediterranean Programme[8], which was launched in 1999. The Mediterranean Programme put the EUI at the forefront of the Euro-Mediterranean research dialogue between 1999 and 2013. Its themes today encompass socio-political, economic and religious trends and transformations.
