Miguel Veloso (born December 6, 2002), known professionally as MICO, is a Filipino-Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician based in Toronto. His music blends elements of indie pop, pop punk, and alternative rock. Veloso first gained recognition through social media platforms and streaming services for his emotionally charged, internet-era pop sound.[1]

Early life

Veloso was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Filipino parents. Details about his early education and musical beginnings remain limited, though interviews and official biographies highlight his early interest in songwriting and online music production communities.[2]

Career

MICO began uploading original music and covers online in his teens. His early single "Who Do You Love" (2019) gained traction on streaming platforms, establishing him as a rising independent artist. In 2020, he released his debut EP, 21st Century Heartbreak, followed by the projects second thoughts (2022), the tears we fight (2023), and the afterparty (2023).[3]

In 2024, MICO released his debut album, Internet hometown hero, accompanied by a North American tour. The record continued his exploration of heartbreak, identity, and nostalgia, with a mix of high-energy punk-influenced tracks and introspective pop songs.[1]

In August 2025, MICO signed a recording deal with Columbia Records.[4] The announcement noted that he is managed by Alex Stojanovic and Gene Albury, and booked by Paquin Artists Agency/UTA/Wasserman Music.[4]

Veloso is also credited under his real name for contributing vocals to Epic: The Musical, a serialized musical project inspired by The Odyssey.[2]

Musical style and influences

MICO’s sound draws from modern pop punk and early 2000s emo, alongside contemporary indie pop influences. His lyrics often explore digital-age relationships, self-reflection, and emotional vulnerability. Critics have compared his production style to artists like Jeremy Zucker, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Bruno Mars.[3]
