MIM(Ahafo)
MIM is a town in the Asunafo North Municipal District in the Ahafo Region of Ghana.[1] MIM is 14km away from the municipal & the regional capital, Goaso.[2] Mim has a settlement population of 30,753 in 2017.[3]
HISTORY: Nana Broffo Appau founded MIM during the Ashanti wars of 1722. The present MIM township was a typical forest full of palm trees. Nana Broffo Appau and his warriors settled under the palm trees and referred to the place as “MIM” i.e. a Twi word meaning “palm trees."[4]
ECONOMY: MIM is one of the industrial towns in the Ahafo Region. Tropical forest reserves in this area serve as a source of raw material for several timber companies such as: Ayum Forest products Ltd, Scanstyle Mim Ltd and other small scale timber firms.[5][6][7] The fundamental occupation of residents of Mim is farming, which includes cash crops and food crops. The predominant cash crops grown in this area are Cocoa and Cashew. The production of cashew in this area led to the establishment of Mim Cashew & Agricultural products Ltd. [8][9]
TOURIST ATTRACTION: Mim Bour(Rocky Mountain) is one of the tourist sites in the Ahafo Region. History indicates that, in the past, the paramount Chief of Mim used to climb the mountain (“Mim Bour”) to address his subjects. It was also said that when climbed, he was able to see all the areas under his jurisdiction and even as far as Techiman and Kumasi. The Mim Bour tourist site is partially developed. From the summit of the Mim Bour(rocky mountain), you have a panoramic view of the cashew plantation and surrounding areas.[10][11][12]
EDUCATION: Mim Senior High School, Ghana Greentech Academy, Basic & Junior High Schools are situated in Mim of the Asunafo North Municipal District.[13][14]
