MIRAGE is a music visualizer developed by MIRAGE VR for virtual-reality. The app was launched on Windows PCs in June 2018.[1]

Music Visuals[edit]

MIRAGE is composed of a collection of independent environments called music visuals. Each music visual is a 3D scene which is parameterized to respond to audio. An example includes a scene where the user is surrounded by a particle system and the color of the particles corresponds to the audio amplitude. Music visuals may also react to audio-bands in the frequency spectrum. A series of filters such as decay, smoothing, and thresholding are applied to the visuals to produce different effects.

Features[edit]

  • MIRAGE provides seamless transitions between visuals by allowing two visuals to share the screen at the same time. Each visual has an enter and exit transition as well as a steady-state.
  • MIRAGE works with all music players by using the system audio of the computer.
  • The user is surrounded by stereoscopic music visuals.
  • MIRAGE features an in-game store where the user may download additional packs of music visuals.

Development and release[edit]

MIRAGE was developed by Will Tesler under the company of MIRAGE VR. The app was created in the Unity game engine. There were 25 visuals available at launch. Each visual is handcrafted in order to create an audio-reactive environment. The experience is currently available on Oculus Rift[2] and HTC Vive. It may also be played without virtual-reality.[1]
