MPM Capital
MPM Capital is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based investment firm that focuses on the healthcare industry; specifically, companies that develop new technologies in cancer research and therapeutics.[1]
History
MPM Capital was founded by Luke Evnin and Ansbert Gadicke in 1997.[2]
Since 2010, MPM has launched 27 startups, helped lead to the development of 50 FDA-approved drugs, and been involved in over 100 IPOs and acquisitions.[3]
In February 2020, MPM Capital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute partnered to raise two funds designed to fund research into a cure for cancer. The two organizations have partnered multiple times, which has directly led to the creation of multiple cancer-based companies, including CoStim Pharmaceuticals.[4][5]
Notable Investments
In 2011, MPM Capital invested in 23andMe, a personal genetics company that allows consumers to trace their lineage through DNA testing. MPM continued to invest in the company through several funding rounds, but exited the investment in June 2021.[6][7]
In 2021, MPM Capital raised over $850 million for a fund that will specifically focus on developing cancer drugs, including those that use mRNA technology, similar to that found in the vaccines for Covid-19.[8]
