MV Cape Sable

MV Cape Sable (T-AKR 5586) is a roll on/roll off cargo ship. She has four sister ships: MV Cape San Juan, MV Cape Starr, MV Cape San Roman, and MV Cape Suarez Point.
Construction and career
Cape Sable was originally built in 2012 at the Daewoo Shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, with the name MV Jolly Quarzo. She was delivered to the Italian commercial company Linea Messina.[1]
She served as a merchant ship until 21 April 2023, when she was purchased by the US Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration, who were looking to recapitalize an aging Ready Reserve Force. Her operating company was Crowley Maritime.[2]
She was layberthed in Norfolk until 27 May 2025, when the Maritime Administration moved her to Pier 80 in San Francisco, then vacant after the departure of the SS Algol and the SS Capella. In August 2025, her operating company turned her over to Tote Maritime.
