MYCS
MYCS is a German e-commerce furniture brand with headquarters in Berlin.[1]. The concept of the business is customisation through modular configuration. MYCS has seven showrooms across three European countries[2]. The brand name[3] is comprised of a play on the word “mix”, alluding to the customisable nature of their products, and the word “my”, to represent the personal and individual products customers can create.
History
MYCS was founded in Berlin in May 2014[4] by Kachun To, Christoph Jung, Kai Sap and Claudio Bredfeldt[5], with the company website going live in June 2015. As of June 2018 the company has seven showrooms: Paris, Nice, Zurich, Munich, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, and the flagship store on Friedrichstraße in Berlin[6].
Offering
The company offers a range of customisable furniture, which consumers can design themselves by combining modules and altering size, colour, materials, and features within the photorealistic 3D-online-configurator the company has developed in-house. Furniture types available include tables, sideboards, shelves, wardrobes, desks, sofas, armchairs and chairs[7].
Production
Sourcing and manufacturing of MYCS furniture is an entirely European operation, with FSC woods and varnishes sourced from Germany and Switzerland[8]. Manufacturing of the furniture takes place in both Finland and Poland[9]. The warehouse is located in Poland.
Financing
MYCS is financed by a combination of private investors, VC organisations, and Business Angels such as KfW[10], with UK investors Beringea signing on in 2018 as part of Series B funding[11]
