Miriam Carone, known musically as MYRY, is a singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist known for her introspective lyrics and multi-lingual performances characterised by soft, warm vocals. Her music primarily operates within the alt pop, electronica, and indie music genres.[1].

Life and Background[edit]

MYRY was born in Brussels, Belgium. Her upbringing was a fusion of multiple cultures, as she was raised in Belgium by Italian parents and later moved to the United Kingdom to study medicine at university whilst cultivating her interest in music. These formative years significantly influenced her musical style [2].

MYRY openly suffers from ADHD diagnosed late in life, and has been outspoken about her struggles with depression and anxiety as well as her early-life experiences of bullying, channelling this into her music[2].

Career[edit]

During her early teen years, MYRY released a string of covers on YouTube, garnering 3.7 million views with her rendition of the song Cups in 2012[3] which contributed to the early development of her fanbase.

She was subsequently scouted online by manager by the label Lyricom who arranged for her to work closely with producer James Kenosha, known for his work with notable alternative artists including Birdy, Rhodes, and Dry The River, and singer-songwriter Joshua Bowyer, known as lead singer for the band Wulf[4].

as she describes in her interview for Wonderland magazine[2].

MYRY's collaboration with producer James Kenosha shaped the sound of her early works, including her debut single Ghosts (2020) as well Stuck in a Loop (2021) and Salty, Sweet and Bitter Rain (2022)[2].

MYRY's debut single Ghosts (2020) received recognition as a notable musical moment and was premiered by BBC Introducing radio. Subsequent release Stuck in a Loop (2021), co-written with Joshua Bowyer, was also premiered by BBC Introducing[5]

The first four singles released by MYRY were under the label Lyricom, which was later rebranded as Good Human Music, and subsequent releases were under Chapter 137 Records.

Recent releases by MYRY, including Born Tired (2023), Silver Linings (2023), and The Shards (2023), were self-produced by the artist and received acclaim from publications including Clash magazine[1], Wonderland magazine[2], Billboard Argentina[6], and Earmilk magazine[7]

Musical Style and Influences[edit]

MYRY's musical style encompasses a broad range of influences, drawing from artists across diverse genres. Her work has been influenced by musicians such as Bon Iver, The National, Radiohead, Florence + The Machine, Alt-J, and Daughter.[2]

Medical Career[edit]

In addition to her music career, MYRY works part-time as a medical doctor[8]. She worked as a junior doctor during the Covid-19 pandemic, during which she temporarily halted her musical career, later to return as an independent artist[2].
