Maccabee SLR
The Maccabee SLR or MDI SLR (Self Loading Rifle) is a lightweight, Canadian built, multi caliber, magazine fed, gas operated, semi-automatic rifle receiver. The receiver's multi caliber system mimics that of the AR15 and can be made in any caliber available to that system. Although the Maccabee SLR is very similar in design, it is not a variant of the AR15, as it was designed from a rifle system that pre-dates the AR15. The Maccabee SLR is not designed to accept any fully automatic function.
The receiver is a non-restricted SLR rifle that accepts AR-15 parts (barrel, handguard, pistol grip, triggers, buttstock, BCG, etc). The RCMP lab has deemed this rifle non-restricted assuming barrel length over 18.5″.[1]

Operating mechanism
The rifle action operates on a direct impingement system.[3] The Maccabee SLR operates in a similar fashion to the popular Colt AR 15.[4]
Upper receivers
The upper receiver incorporates the fore stock, the charging handle, the gas operating system, the barrel, the bolt and bolt carrier assembly. The Maccabee SLR employs a modular design. Thus one upper receiver can quickly and easily be substituted for another. Upper receivers are available with barrels of different weights, lengths, calibers, and rail systems with various sights and accessories. The Maccabee SLR must have an 18.5" barrel, to be legally categorized as a non-restricted firearm in Canada.
Lower receivers
The lower receiver incorporates the magazine well, the pistol grip, the buttstock, the buffer and the buffer spring. The lower receiver also contains the trigger, disconnector, hammer and fire selector (collectively known as the fire control group).
Sights
The Maccabee SLR uses standard picatinny rails, which allows the use of various scopes and sighting devices.
Magazines
The Maccabee SLR uses 10-20-30-round staggered-column AR-15 Magazine (firearms). Due to a clause in Canada's magazine restrictions the maximum amount limit allowed is 10 rounds while using a LAR15 pistol magazine. All other common magazines available are pinned or physically limited to 5 rounds per Canadian law.[5][6] Note, even though it's legal to possess and use LAR15 pistol magazines it is common to have restrictions on magazine capacity while hunting as prescribed by provincial or territorial law.
Platform
There is a vast assortment of aftermarket parts and accessories available for the Maccabee SLR. Including: Barrels, Magazines, Bolt Carrier Groups, Charging Handles, Furniture & Stock Kits, Picatinny Rails, Muzzle Devices, Trigger Groups, Bi-Pods, Lasers, Tactical Lights, Carry Handles, Sights, Scopes and Optics, to name a few.
